The former if raised from kittenhood can be somewhat tamed.
The latter is feral.

I had one walk under my deer stand years ago and I was amazed at the size of it's tail, it was as big around as a softball bat and near as long as the cat.

To be honest i did not know if I could kill it or not since "there are no cougars in Virginia" according to VDGIF.

It went on past my stand and cut across a old drag road and disappeared over the ridge.

I just finished “cougar” by W. W. Brock which is about 2 game officers tracking a wild cougar that’s eating people....

Good read, but I think he tried a bit too hard to put every conservative talking point in the novel...
