 SHTF Bugout Secrets From One of America’s Most Infamous Manhunts?? Interesting watch about Rudolph’s evasion tactics. It made me wonder though, would he be able to have gotten away as easily and for as long in today’s world vs the more limited scope of technology available then? |

But wasn't there a couple recently in the past 5 years or so that stayed "hidden " for a good amount of time? And I think lack of discipline and preparation got them. Not technology |

I think it just continually gets more difficult to stay hidden. The amount of data collected every day is insane, and the ability for AI algorithms to process it is even more insane. Everything from credit card records, to cell phone positions, to flock cameras to the ability to search through people's past history/connections and delve into this people's info. |

If he didn't carry around a cellphone, wore a woke mask under a hoodie with a ball cap and sunglasses he'd have a shot. ETA: Interestingly enough, Rudolph's lawyer was a Jewish guy. Also, Rudolph's own brother cut off his own hand with a saw on video to send a message to the FBI.

ER was in hiding from 1998 to 2003. Trail cameras existed but were not common. This was the era when they were going from 35mm to digital. Now a days everyone runs cameras and cellular versions make up the majority that are sold. Someone like ER would have to hide in a extremely remote area to go undetected. The problem is that to make it long term you would need to steal to survive and that would mean living on the edge of civillation where cell service would likely exist and so would hunters cameras uploading instant pics. You would need help to hide out indefinitely. No way you could do it on your own. |

I moved last year and had to whittle down four bookshelves into two. I went through my collection of old “Paladin Press” books and flipped through a couple regarding how to change or conceal your identity. The information was maybe still relevant 30 years ago but was only worth a chuckle, today. I gave them to an old friend who was as equally amused but had more shelf space. I think one of the BIG takeaways from the Eric Rudolph pursuit is just how miserable the experience was for him. When he was captured, he was rummaging through dumpsters for food. He made it five years on the run but I’m not sure many modern Americans would be able to tolerate the survivalist lifestyle for very long. |

| We spent a week in Murphy NC while Rudolph was on the run. It was obvious how much support he had in the community. Quite a few stores and sidewalk displays were selling t-shirts, hats and coffee mugs that said something like “I support Eric Rudolph”. I don’t know if he could evade authorities today as well as he did then, but I think community support was a huge factor in that manhunt. |

The FBI always thought he was getting support from some in the local community. When they located his hide, the FBI actually collected all his feces from his pit to measure how much was in there. I never heard the result of this analysis on whether it amounted to five years worth of shit or less. |
