Damn thing eats batteries like Rosie O’Donell eats hams. Edit, that was my Thermapen, reading more on their horribly slow site I see they revised it to the thermapen 1 with AAA batts. Bought one. Hopefully I get more than the two weeks I was getting out of the pair of 2032s. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

Got sold on their stuff by all the hype people posted here. My experience is they aren’t any better than the less expensive Amazon stuff with temp probes going wildly inaccurate in one year or less. I spent hundreds of dollars on their thermometers the past several years and once the last one stopped working I decided it’s much better to go with multiple of the cheaper Amazon units so when one inevitably gives up the ghost, I have a backup to use. Nothing sucks more than having a brisket ready to go on the smoker and finding out that the thermometer is reading 30 or more degrees off. I buy relatively cheap ones from Amazon and think of them as disposable. If they last more than a year I got my money’s worth. If not I have a backup or two, new in the package for less than the price of one Thermoworks that in my experience are no better. |
Well, this is the interwebs and for every person that has had good luck with a product, there will be someone who says said product sucks regardless. I have years worth of use (2022)…no batteries replaced so far. And the all aspect display is nice; no contortions required to get a correctly oriented display. I’ve had nothing but good luck with their products and never had cause to exercise their multi-year warranty. Do the Wallymart specials come with certified calibration documentation like the ThermoWorks units? If I saw a discrepancy between two measured temps I wouldn’t question the Thermopen.  Lol. On this site we’re all about Tier 1, until it’s time to be Tier 1, then it’s GuD eNOuGH. Forget I mentioned it and you do you.

The last time we did this, it was a fuckton cheaper. Can’t remember the price, but it was cheap enough for my stingy ass to buy. This time around? nah ETA: lol verified calibrated. Get yourself a $12 taylor analog thermometer and if there’s any doubt of accuracy, stick it in ice water and and set it yourself to 32 degrees. |
