Update 9/3 Rolling paint continues on the N. Wall. Reagan, Taylor, and Trey started adding the next color band to the wall.   Siren- Yeah, we got a few questionable looks from people walking down the hall today. One teacher told Hailey she was dress-coding our mannequin.  Hailey is holding the Siren in approximately the position we would like to see the torso. Later, this morning, we made some initial cuts on the mannequin so we can shape her more into the position we need for swimming around the coral colunn.  Serena and Shaeley worked to staple and cut more chicken wire for the column. We are shaping as we go, trying to leave shelves and voids in our coral formation.  This was amazingly generous of a student's parent......and probably someone who reads this forum, cause what is here is surprisingly close to the list I posted.    Beth worked on the 1/48 F-4, getting the wings figured out. In the background, you can see the sheep horns that Layla added a bit more linseed oil to. We will probably have to lighten them a bit with some steel wool.  Driftwood sheep- Landon P working on the frame. He is going to tweek the head to the right slightly and move the mount plate more to the left. He is also going to put a bit more bend in the neck.  |

Update 9/4 Frantic Friday is here! Short schedule of 30min classes. Hopefully we still get things accomplished today. @raffi383 The safety glasses made it to me yesterday afternoon! Thank you! Kids have been doing much better with wearing them as there are always nice clean, unscratched sets there.  F-4U Seabed plywood still needs a bit more clean up, and we need to add some cross members before attaching it. We also have to be very careful with our supports so we don't end up covering the window to the work room.   U.S.S Arizona base- Kids got a layer of burlap and glue on there yesterday. We will see about scaling the ship today.  Earhart's Electra base- We are working with the idea that we will put the wreckege of her plane on this tier when done. Hayden got part of the rising coral cliff formation done yesterday.  Pirate Ship shoreline- We added 2x4 posts to begin creating the rocky shoreline that our ship will be crashed up against and sinking.  Tiger shark- Yesterday, students mapped out where a center 2x4 beam will be in each of the cross sections, that are one foot apart from each other. We will begin cutting out those holes today, and putting them on the main beam, then begin creating more cross sections of foam to fill in the spaces.  |

Update 9/8 Team Shark- Ellora and Brielle marking out the center beam for our shark, and cutting out the material.  Siren Tower Team- Addie, Shaeley, Serena and Aubrey working on filling the last voids in our chicken wire. Next they will begin adding burlap around the tower.  You can see in the background we pulled the Liberty Ship Edward Avila down for the time being, so we can paint above it without wrecking it.  Earhart's wreck shelf getting a bit of chicken wire sculpting-  Wrecked pirate shoreline also getting chicken wire rock sculptures-  The swimming siren- Charlotte, Kamryn, Zoe, and Emma worked on friday to make cuts into our mannequin, and start manipulating it into a swimming position.  To fill the voids left, we decided to play around with expanding foam. If it doesn't work, no worries, we can try something else, but I think we can sculpt down the foam and leave us with a base to cover with the siren's skin.

Maybe a drop cloth over the Edward Avila? You shouldn't have any paint fall on it, but murphy runs rampant in projects. Maybe even mechanically secure it in the back of a classroom and lean a piece of plywood against it to keep fingers away from messing with it. |

| I have watched the collection grow for years now. As a former educator myself I have watched in amazement. Eventually, you'll retire; I hope that future administrators will maintain the displays and allow a future teacher to continue the tradition. It would be a shame for the district to lose it. The last thing your district needs is a new administrator with a unique, new, and vibrant paradigm to sweep it all away. |

That might be the best play, next teacher would have giant boots to fill and he's a shining example that people don't need doctorate degrees in art and another in education to truly teach kids in several disciplines, to the point they come in on their off time to work on that semester's project (TL;DR helping them learn, rather than rote memorization and regurgitation for standardized tests). |

Update 9/9 I was sure it was Thursday just a minute ago. We are running pretty good right now. Things are progressing quickly and it's hard for me to keep up, which is good, I guess.  Team Shark- Tallia, Bailey, and Gisselle. Getting the cross sections onto the beam.  6th Hour Team Shark- Ben, Callie, and Audrey cutting out more sections to fill into our sharks body.  We decided to bring it out and make sure we had our deep sea diver placed correctly to make room for the shark. This is what we are envisioning. Little different than the AI image, but It should work better with the shark closer to the wall, so it doesn't stick out into where people are walking, but still allow people to get a good selfie of them getting eaten by the shark? We will see? There has been some rumbles that our full scale shark is too big..... 8' of 16ft. I say, "We like big sharks, and can not lie......"  Our diver secured onto the platform late in the day.  Mural Team 6- ElliehMayhe, Elaiana, and Aubree getting more base coat on.   Siren Tower 6- Stella and Avery.....Filling the last few sections with chickenwire.  Team 7 came in and added the first few layers of burlap and glue. We will continue this today.  These two serious fellas  , Gianreye and Carter......Team 4 working to add form to the bottom of our Pirate coast. Dayton and Sawyer came in late in the day and cut down our bootie just a bit on our Siren. We decided she did not need cheeks, and we could use the section that attached to the torso, so they cut it down a bit.   @Everetts  Wow!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! Incredible generosity, Sir!!! It was fun watching Dayton, Hayden and Sawyer open them all up. I got the 2nd box later in the hour and told them they had to wait for 1st hour to open it today. These are going to be so, so helpful!    Sheep Project- Landon getting the frame all welded up and adding attachment points for our driftwood. He adjusted the head plate a bit, as we want the horns rotated back just a bit. The nose will also have to come up.  |

That is a lot of gloves.. Did you not get the paint trays? They're disposable but thick enough not to be, like 1/8" thick plastic with feet on the front and back edges. (except a drk green) Those gloves are good, let me know if you need more, I use them all the time and they're easy to grip things with even wearing the gloves. The ones twice as thick with the diamond texture really work but I only use those for solvent since once solvent for auto paint hits them it's a timer before they just fall apart so starting thick and they're garbage inside 30 minutes, drooping and holes forming. |

Update 9/10 Things are trucking right along. Going to have to make a run to the lumber store again today. We are about out of foam, and we need new plywood sheets too. @FB41 Man! You set us up Sir! THANK YOU! Alex already sat down and sharpened quite a few drill bits! He was very excited and took it down to show our Wood Shop teacher. The sharpener works very well! Really cool tool.  The tapes! the knives! Trays! Soft Tapes! Flexible Rulers! Blades! even the hasmat suits! We started using them right off the bat!  @brass & @Cargo !!!!! THANK YOU FELLAS! Your packages showed up yesterday afternoon in a pile. Haha!  - The paint trays are perfect brass! - The gloves also look excellent! Charlotte already used a set while spraying foam into our Siren's tummy yesterday.  - The rulers and tapes are very nice Cargo! THANK YOU! It's so nice to actually have numbers readable on rulers!  Siren- Sawyer working with Dayton and Charlotte late in the day to get the tail started on our Siren.  The tower is getting burlap on there pretty quickly. I ordered more glue and paint from Sherwin Williams yesterday.   Mural Team 4- Kaylen and Lainni adding some detail strokes to help blend the base coats.  F-4U Beth working on getting cross sections laid out on paper, to make patterns that we can cut out of plywood. This is 1/3rd scale.  Sheep- Landon P getting the skull cap attached to his frame.  1st piece of drift wood attached. I think this is going to turn out pretty amazing.   |

Every year it's like"Well, they've got all this stuff from last year/two years ago..." when it's been like 5-7 years. The new flexible metal rulers look super spiffy! Seeing the spotlight on the lift, don't you have a spare spotlight you weren't able to place into last year's display and saved it? Is that it or do you have 2 lights to work with already for the aquatic theme? |

The one pictured by the lift, showing green, seems to come on when it wants, in a color it pics.... They are pricey. I blame my friend Renee. We all went over to the Military Vehicles Museum in Dubois WY and were captivated by the awesome displays. They had similar lights and Renee says, "you guys need those." Yup. We do. It just didn't last very long. The cheaper one we bought still comes on and shows the correct color, but the motor has stopped. No motion anymore. They were both purchased on Amazon. |

Update 9/10.2 Evening update...... "Welcome Back Night at school". I'm here till 7 tonight. Thought I'd share some cool stuff from the Sheep project today. Landon P is working very quickly. He got some help from Layla and Leora, but most is him putting in several hours of work each day. This is going to be crazy cool when done. I'm excited......not sure my wife is going to feel the same, when it's time to find a place for it in our cabin.   There have been quite a few pieces added, then removed, as he has sculpted the form to look similar to the ram in the reference photos. The girls found some great pieces to use as the jaw. There just needs to be a few more filler pieces added to the head before the details can go on.

It just didn't last very long. The cheaper one we bought still comes on and shows the correct color, but the motor has stopped. No motion anymore. They were both purchased on Amazon. Buy the 2 year assurion with it for like 30% of the price added but then it's unlimited replacements for 2 years and you can extended it all you want. When you send stuff back if it works it goes to the "Amazon Used" stores otherwise goes to recycling and they don't care, you get emailed a link to the insurance and then you need to buy it again. You can get an idea of how reliable something is by looking at the price of an item and the price of a 3 year full protection warranty.

Looking at your last post was great timing. I just got a Email from Grizzly Tools tools. They are running a contest for metal workers. That is those who do art in metal. Top prize is $4,000. I suggest the metal ram should be entered. Here is the link you can show/give to the student to decide if he wants to enter. He should!! Grizzley link to contest. Update 9/11/26 Frantic Friday- Numerous students are gone today for activities and out sick. Going to be kind of skinny around here.  Corsair- Beth working diligently to get cross section patterns cut out for our fighter. Later, Dane and Matt got the wing profiles traced out and cut out. We should be transferring to plywood soon.  Jim and Sawyer P worked on getting a 2x4 attached to our reef shelf and then wire over top to simulate a sandy ocean floor. We discussed a hook and ring set up for attaching the fuselage to the shelf. We will begin messing with that soon.   Deep Sea Diver- We decided to see if FB41's coveralls would work for our suit, but I think we will continue to look for something else. I found some coveralls made out of canvas on Amazon that might work a bit better, and in a brown that is closer to what we can find in photographs of period suits.  Pirate reef- Marco, Ryan, and Tayson working to get the underwater section covered with wire. We will begin adding burlap this morning.  Team Shark 1- Tallia, Bailey and Gisselle worked to get more cross sections cut out, but we ran into a bit of a problem later in the day and will have to rework a few. Gisselle worked to make some of the cast off sections into the nose of our shark.  Mermaid Column- Carter G, Reece, and Kennly did a good job of getting more burlap over our tower. We ran out of glue later in the day, but got our delivery from Sherwin Williams and will begin again today.  Hailee worked to carve down the stomach of our mermaid, and then fill a few voids that developed in the foam.  We cut out numerous sections of her tail, and also got a hanger on her back so we can attach her to the column. We will begin adding skin to her today.  Mural Team 1- Morgan doing some good detail work in one of our swirls. We are blending with a brush first, then we will add some airbrush work later.

EBR Dawson graduated last year, and I haven't seen him yet this year, but I have two of his sisters in class. I will take a look and see if he still qualifies. If so, I'll pass the link on to him. I will also see if Landon P intends to create something this year. He is younger, but similarly talented. |

That is something he should really get into. Most entries will be beautiful TIG weld of beer cans onto stainless steel. His age when creating will give him a boos as well, and is something that most metalworkers aren't into usually combine wood and metal shops for steampunk furniture from what I've seen. |
