I did.  Not being a millionaire like most here, I chose to only go through a handful of rounds.  Here's what I learned today:

1) Test your gear.  I already knew this, but today drove the point home.  I had an amazon sling on my budget blaster AR pistol.  It broke on the 3rd or 4th shot today.  I'll be ordering something better to replace it soon.

2) I need to practice A LOT more with my carry gun.  At 10 paces drawing from concealment, I hit my 8 inch gong less than half the time.  I wasn't even shooting that fast.

3) I can hit the same gong at 50 paces pretty easily with my Ruger Mk IV with a green dot.  Its not even properly zeroed, I just made some course adjustments shooting at a laundry detergent jug in the yard yesterday.

4) M193 out of a 10.5 inch AR15 will dimple said target at 50 paces.  I could've sworn I ready as long as impact velocity was less than 3000 FPS that I would be ok.

5) Mags I picked up 10 years ago that wouldn't cycle properly in a few of my rifles worked fine in the AR pistol.  Go figure.

My goal for 2024 was not just to "shoot more" but do some real exercises to become a better shooter.  If anybody has suggestions on how to do so without burning through 1000 rounds a month, I'm all ears.  I bought some snap caps to start a dry fire routine but I haven't done much yet.

Any chance to fire off some rounds, whether its 100 rounds or an all day shooting marathon, is a good day.

I think I fired eleven .22lr rounds at 20 to ~161 yards per my rangefinder. Also maybe a few dozen arrows from my bow. That’s it.

I bought both of them before people started posting their issues online.

Not today, but I went yesterday. I waited until after 6:00pm and the range was deserted. Ran 100 rounds through my recently
acquired XDM-E OSP .45ACP. Plates at 15 and 25 yards. I shot well. A great time was had. Will likely go again on Tuesday.

Thanks, I'll check those out.

Speaking of K frames, I also learned today that my 66 in a OWB holster is much more comfortable than anything IWB.  Kind of a Duh moment, but its been years since I carried anything OWB.  An with a baggy shirt, its actually concealed.

Shot 150 rounds of .38 Special last night. 50 through a S&W Model 640 that I recently installed an Apex Duty/Carry Kit in to verify it works properly (it does, and with a much nicer trigger now), and 100 through a Model 66-3.

Today I added to my spreadsheet of charges that my RCBS Little Dandy powder measure throws. The LD uses interchangeable, fixed capacity drums. I added entries for Accurate No.2 and Winchester 244 to my spreadsheet, after taking the average of 10 throws for each drum.

I spent the day off cutting fields, didn't see any woodchucks so no shootie shoots for me today. I might break out the 6.5 CM tomorrow morning if I don't have to trim any trees to shoot. The far steel is 2 fields over. If the lane between the fields grows in I can't see it. I meant to check tonight but forgot.

I took my kids and their significant others last week to shoot including 2 uppers I've never shot and to sight in some aimpoints on them.  3 ARs, shooting steel wolf.

I gave my son my BCM upper a few weeks ago so it was his first time to shoot it.  After a mag or two it started failing to reset the trigger.  I figured it needed lube and didn't have time to diagnose, so it went in the bag.  He told me later he was checking the chamber and didn't use the forward assist after and that might have been causing problems.  Don't know, but we will clean it and try again.

After 5 or so mags through my PSA 10.5", we had a stuck case.  Sad, because it was super light and the girls (and I) loved it.  It went down second, back in the case.  2 taps on a cleaning rod at home and it's GTG.

That left my Larue, an upper I've had for over a decade and never shot, but I recently got a Larue lower through EE and was excited to try it out as a set.  It was surprisingly accurate with that steel wolf.  I did decide I needed a BCM charging handle like I have on the PSA, so ordered earlier.

I also brought one of my (2) surplus hi powers, both of them are so fucking inaccurate I wouldn't carry them.  I guess the barrels are worn out, but they are toss arounds and were cheap so...

Overall, we had a good hour at the range.

In fact I did. Went out with my nephews and had a great time. Shot some handguns, handguns, and rifles.

My nephew and I took our Mosin-Nagants out and made several hits on an IPDA going at 500. I had my VKT Finn M91 and he brought a refurb 91/30. Not easy, considering the front sight covered the going at that range

My AR-10 with a PA micro 3x prism, on the other hand made hits on the gong pretty easy.

Been a while since we'd all gone out and it was a great day!

Got to the 500 rnd mark on my new Prodigy yesterday. 250 rounds of 124 grain. The first 150+- the slide was still acting sluggish
and I had to tap the slide forward quite a bit. I squirted a generous amount of Break free onto the rails and after that the pistol was
100%. Hopefully, that takes care of that. It was cleaned vigorously before I took it out and again yesterday.

Took my S&W AR15-22 with me because it has been at least a year since I shot it. 150 rounds, six mags worth. A couple of no-fires,
other than that it is as accurate as always.

What was really cool was my 9 year old Grand daughter was pestering me to help clean my guns when I got home. I said "Sure" and let her
run the cleaning rod . I believe this is the 1st time Abigail has had gun oil on her hands, a land mark
day. After that, I was at a loss on how she could help me until she picked up a .22 mag and asked, "What's this for, Grandpa?"

"Do you think you could load bullets into this, Dear?" "Sure!" It took a few minutes of training before she got the hang of it ("Load them butt first, Dear")
but then loaded up the six 25-round mags for me like it was nothing. Guess having small hands helps. My 12 year old Grand son Jack caught me looking
down the bore of the .22 and reminded me NEVER to point a gun at anyone......"Um, you are 100% right. The only exception is when it's broken down into
parts and the gun cannot fire." I pointed to the parts on the table and he said, "Okay."

A good day for a couple reasons.

Shot a couple of handguns Friday after missing four weeks. I put about 65 rounds through the new Eschelon. Mostly ball, but about 15 rounds of mixed hollow points. Everything good at 7 yards and 40 yards. I put 45 rounds through my XD9 carry pistol at the same ranges. Guns worked flawlessly as usual, but I'm definitely rusty with the layoff. I was previously practicing twice a month.

Two 5x8 swinging plates at 10 yards
A three arm dueling tree at 10 yards
One vertical 5 foot target stand for monzambique drill at 7 yards
One 5x8 swinging plate at 40 yards

Nothing special in the back yard

No not today. It was my wife's weekend to work, so I was on dad duty this weekend. Going Tuesday though. Will be doing some drills and then rucking on the range property for a bit.

Good on you OP. It takes a lot to admit you need work. I think more shooters should have that mentality and strive to always be better. I drill a lot and go to classes fairly often. But I made it a point in 2024 to buy less guns and do more training and go to classes. Signed up for 3 so far and hoping to hit a couple more.

You can do a lot with 50 rounds and even more with 100 rounds. Incorporating dry fire into live rounds results in more reps. Just focus on the basics and you'll get better. Doing dry fire and dry work at home helps too.

Yesterday I zeroed my SCAR-16 10" with Velos LBP. Then I zeroed my Galil MAR with Velos LBP also. I will be using it for a match next weekend at the local Kalashnikov match. Then I zeroed my LMT based Block II type rifle. It will not function correctly which sucks. I was using PSA Sabre 55gr ammo.

Today I took my URG-I/Super Duty rifle and the LMT to the range. I brought Tula steel cased, PMC, and the Sabre. The URG-I ran everything. I swapped uppers and the URG-I ran perfectly. The Block II continued to not cycle completely, even with the Surefire RC2 and the PMC ammo. I shot a guy I know from work's Curtis action in an MPA chassis in 7mm SAUM out to 600 yards. 10 shots and 10 hits. It was truly easy mode and lots of fun.

On my LMT rifle, I pulled it all apart. It's a KAK Industry 14.5" SOCOM clone barrel and KAK BCG. The buffer is a carbine buffer at 3oz and used to be the URG-I uppers lower. The gas port is to spec at .0625. The gas block is KAK also and was tested on a different barrel months ago. It looks lined up. I felt the BCG and it felt a little bit like there was something on it that was like old hardened grease. I thought I cleaned it, but maybe I forgot. I scrubbed it, lubed the hell out of it, and also put a different spring in there. I'll see if I can get out there after work to fix it.

The PSA Sabre 55gr ammo was excellent. Accuracy was 1 inch at 50 yards with the Galil MAR (normally around 2). The LMT when it shot right printed 6 shots touching each other. I had about .75" groups at 50 yards with the SCAR.
