A few months ago I got the itch to shoot a mile. I was hoping it would go away but it has not so I am having a rifle built for the task. It is likely when I go to the range I will not have a spotter so I am thinking to use spotting scope with a DSLR in live mode and send the video to a notebook so I can record and review shots. There seems to be two ways to combine the DSLR and spotting scope. One is an adaptor the attaches to the DSLR body which then attaches to another piece which slides onto the eyepiece. The other looks to be an adaptor that screws onto the lens like a filter would attach. I am not able to find the specifics on how that attaches to the spotting scope. That is my first question, what is the rest of the connection? Second question, does method two use the eyepiece of the spotting scope? Third question, what are the advantages and disadvantages of each? The first method seems to require adjusting the camera body in and out to get the image focused on the sensor. The second method uses the lens to focus the image. That seems to be an advantage at least if the lens focusing is accomplished internally. Thanks! Nikon D600 and Kowa TSN-82SV spotting scope. |

It takes away some of the visual impact when you can't see it.
