I've been trying to convince my wife of this for years.  Halloween is an explicitly Christian holiday, for the purpose of remembering the dead and hallowing the saints.

The costume thing originated to frighten away demons. Seems silly now, but not so much several hundred years ago.

I agree it's been corrupted, but I don't see Christians claiming Christmas isn't Christian, although its modern celebration has even more tenuous roots.

Not just the UK. I envision a similar meme for my grandkids, living in an all white ghetto - maybe it will be like the Amish, but more likely like a Polish Ghetto.

I'd be dead.  If the insurgent missed and took his time reloading I might still be staring in the wrong direction.

For the record, it's long been associated with Samhain (pronounced Saa-wn) which is a Celtic celebration. But it is at the cross quarter day halfway between the fall equinox and winter solstice. That is actually on November 7th and not October 31st. It seems that pretty much everyone these days, says Samhain is on the 31st but presumably the Celts were good enough astronomers to calculate the cross quarter days properly... maybe the solar calendar we used just slipped some over time.

Supposedly, on this day the "veil" between the world of the living and the world of the dead was at its thinnest.

So, the Celtic Pagan traditions likely did have an influence on how Halloween is celebrated, but it is not really the same as the Celtic pagan Samhain

Many Christian holidays, particularly Catholic, grew out of or were rearranged to align with existing pagan holidays.

Trump Jr. talking all of the 2A smack is a bold move with more anti-2A stuff happening/not happening under Orange Julius than any President in my life time.

The Bruen Decision wouldn’t have gone our way if it weren’t for the Orange Julius.
