I went to some of those bars regularly in Japan (they call em kyabakura bars). Basically, instead of strippers you get chicks that just hang out with you. They're literally paid to party, drink, and eat with you.

I was just looking them up to see if there's any near me for a guy's night out. Apparently there's a couple in NYC, so maybe there's a future AMA thread coming lol.

A former co-worker ditched our group while we were in Japan, and hung out at a few of those places.

He thought he was gonna get some pussy….lol.

Juicy girls in South Korea

Dude in my company would blow hundreds a night there. Thought the girl was in love with him

Use to go camping at a friends shack in the marsh.  We joked around about paying a stripper just to hang out with us and bring us drinks when our beers were empty.
No sex, no nudity.  Just a skimpy outfit.

No. They don't really exist in America. You may have found a couple, but those are exceptions to the rule.

I think that's kinda the point. Basement dwellers can go their for a different "girlfriend experience" than a strip club.

It also exists for women too lol:

It's a different culture. You pay for a pretty woman to give you individual attention and service for the evening, whereas I think most Americans just want the bartender to serve them drinks and then go away. As long as you don't see them as anything more than a professional entertainer, I don't see the issue with it. It would still be a tough sell for me, considering the expectation is that you pay for their food and drinks as well, beyond just the fee for their time.

Also it's worth pointing out the razzle dazzle element. It's not uncommon for businessmen take clients or bosses to them as a means of showing off. They aren't just frequented by lonely losers.

Pretty much all the bars in Vietnam were like that.  When you come in, all kinds of naked girls run over to say "you buy me drink GI???"  How 'bout Bangkok?  Same same.  It was just awful!

How does it differ from hiring an escort to be arm candy for the evening?

I have a buddy that always jokes that he's going to open a strip club called "I think she likes me!". The funny thing is, he visits those places more than any of my other friends and always has stories of how one of the girls really liked him, gave him her number, and they're actually going meet up to go out. It's never once come to fruition even though it seems every time he goes he lands a prospective date. He actually is the only single guy in our whole group of friends.

Friend of mine had a stripper try to pull that on him. She wanted him to take her to a Casino.
He was a pretty bad smut hound for a while, but he wasn't dumb enough to fall for it.

Heard of a couple guys at work hitting those up while they were in APAC. Sounds like the girls hang out if you get them $15 fruit juice "cocktails" while you get absolutely obliterated on Johnny Walker Black.

Boston’s combat zone strip joints were famous for this. Strippers would make the rounds between sets and hustle for drinks…bought them a drink now and then if they were cute. Got some cock rubs for my trouble! 😛 this was many years ago.

Is that like the KTVs in China and other parts of Asia where you pay chicks to sing karaoke with you?  Had a local take me to one and it was awkward and weird and was trying to figure out if they were just whores with a different gimmick or what. As I was not interested in partaking of such shenanigans I never did figure it out.

Because that is pretty much a myth.   Any "escort" that you pay is expected to sex you up,  not be arm candy

If you know where to go there are some very high end places like that in Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong, Cyprus, etc.
Very beautiful and intelligent women who can carry on a conversation in almost any subject but if you think you’re fucking them, you will be let down.
They are great to rent if you need a sophisticated date for a business dinner.

Juicy bars.  Tons of those in Wan Chai, Hong Kong in mid '90s while HK was still British.  A few were since Vietnam days at the time. The Neptune Bar comes to mind.

Really shitty places where lots of old expats hung out.  We all went to Kowloon and Macau when it was still a Portuguese colony.  The ChiComs fucked everything up now.

You wound either buy those ridiculously overpriced drinks for the chick, or just pay the bar fine to get the girl for X amount of hours.

Ah yes, izakayas, love em. Definitely one of the best things about Japan that I wished were more commonplace here. Not just the establishments themselves, but the culture as well.

Instead, here we get bars and pubs with tons of TV's that throw you wings, burgers, pizza, and fried food, then hope you leave asap. It's just not the same

I went to college there during the transition period before the chicoms really fucked it up and Lan Kwai Fong was the spot to meet chicks without that nonsense. Wan Chai was where all the Filipino maids preyed on Navy sailors and tourists.

Why not just go to the ones in Shanghai where they go back to the hotel with you after the foreplay at the bar for a few hundred Yuan or less.  Wrap it up and try not to get roofied/rolled.

No, I haven't.  I don't need to pay women to talk to me.  They are naturally attracted to a masculine, self-confident man.

I hear ya, brother.

My wife keeps trying to get me to go "meet people" and make friends here (we moved to her hometown so she could be near her family). She even suggested going to a bar. The bars around here are all pretty much like what you describe - or places for trailer trash to swill cheap lager and look for something to fight over.

Now, if there was a place to sit and sip Scotch on a nice leather wing chair and have a conversation with someone without a neck tattoo, I'd totally be up for that.

Not sure where you are but in Hamburg you want the Relax Club, (Sting is a regular) in Singapore you want the 4th floor of Harry’s (PM me for some others) in Hong Kong you want Traffic but you need to talk to the boss lady and tell her what you’re looking for.

The only places like that near me are cigar bars.

I've visited all the "hidden" or speakeasy places near me too and they're all just restaurants in disguise.

There's this one really cool place where you have to go into a separate restaurant to get a door code from the hostess, then you leave the place and go down an alley to a door and enter the code to get in. But again, it's just a restaurant. Get your food and get the heck outta here for the next reservation

Just outside of Camp Geiger, ITS 1987.

They would check your ID walking in, then some little hottie would come up to you saying "Buy me drinkie".  $5 for a cup of jungle juice for them.

I was in Korea for two weeks and caught on quickly. The next time I went back to the juicy bar I bought a big jug of the orange juice they drank. When the juicy girl sat on my lap I pulled the jug of OJ out and slammed it in the table. I said you are here with me all night! Momma San wasn’t amused!
