SO ECONOMY, MUCH GOOD DETROIT (AP) — Ford revealed details of its long-awaited restructuring plan Monday as it prepared for a future of electric and autonomous vehicles by parting ways with 7,000 white-collar workers worldwide, about 10 percent of its global salaried workforce. The major revamp, which had been under way since last year, will save about $600 million per year by eliminating bureaucracy and increasing the number of workers reporting to each manager. In the U.S. about 2,300 jobs will be cut through buyouts and layoffs. About 1,500 have left voluntarily or with buyouts, while another 300 have already been laid off. About 500 workers will be let go starting this week, largely in and around the company's headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, just outside Detroit. View Quote View Quote |

I may have contributed to the layoffs.
Recently we decided to buy two new vehicles. A truck for me and a SUV for my wife. We seriously looked at the Ford trucks and the Explorer. Instead we bought a Tundra and a Highlander. Two reasons: 1. I know the 150s are good trucks but so are the Tundras. No comparison in the quality of the Explorer compared to the Highlander. 2. At the end of the day I just couldn't buy a vehicle made by the UAW. Not with the money they pour into the Democrat Party. |

Apparently few actually read here. 5000 of these cuts are in Germany. Meanwhile they are hiring to staff the 2 new $1B factories in Chicago.
The economy indeed. |

I'll buy American, give the dems their 58 cents, and write a check to Republicans. Problem solved. |

Your issue is with the uaw giving to the dems ... 58 cents per vehicle, which you can easily nullify by giving ten times as much to the R's. In the mean time, those uaw workers are just after a paycheck, like everyone else, and the vast majority of the ones I know vote republican. |

Their vote is not based on who they work for, so if you buy a jap car, or even if you put the big three out of business, you aren't going to change who they vote for. Here are the sources I used to come up with 58 cents per vehicle. https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/summary.php?id=D000000070 https://www.mlive.com/news/2019/01/detroits-big-3-in-2018-fca-enjoys-best-year-since-2001-while-ford-gm-dip.html ETA: Toyota gave about $500K to D's, and $600K to R's. If you buy American, and give $2 to the R's, you've done better for them than buying a Toyota. |
