Almost all manufacturers have stopped making sedans. It is all crossovers, SUVs and trucks. The sedans that are left are made by the Japs. Chevy didn't see the writing on the wall. Ford stopped making the Focus, Fusion and Taurus. We had a Fusion for a while and it was a great car.

I stand with my observation ......

It has been established that this guy is a LEO.

IF he exhibits the same naivety, look-at-me attitude, short-sitedness, lack of respect, strange beliefs, etc ...... on his job.

THEN I am afraid for those who he serves and they should not be exposed to him.

I would expect the same treatment in my previous line of work (retired IT).

If this is grounds for some kind of punishment from the management, then so be it.

SO ECONOMY, MUCH GOOD

DETROIT (AP) — Ford revealed details of its long-awaited restructuring plan Monday as it prepared for a future of electric and autonomous vehicles by parting ways with 7,000 white-collar workers worldwide, about 10 percent of its global salaried workforce.

The major revamp, which had been under way since last year, will save about $600 million per year by eliminating bureaucracy and increasing the number of workers reporting to each manager.

In the U.S. about 2,300 jobs will be cut through buyouts and layoffs. About 1,500 have left voluntarily or with buyouts, while another 300 have already been laid off. About 500 workers will be let go starting this week, largely in and around the company's headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, just outside Detroit.

I may have contributed to the layoffs.

Recently we decided to buy two new vehicles.  A truck for me and a SUV for my wife.

We seriously looked at the Ford trucks and the Explorer.

Instead we bought a Tundra and a Highlander.

Two reasons:

1.  I know the 150s are good trucks but so are the Tundras.  No comparison in the quality of the Explorer compared to the Highlander.

2.  At the end of the day I just couldn't buy a vehicle made by the UAW.  Not with the money they pour into the Democrat Party.

Here's the math behind your reasoning.

The big three sold about 7,104,000 vehicles in 2018.

The UAW gave $4,135,169 to the dems.

That works out to 58 cents per vehicle.  58 cents.

So the choice is, send 58 cents to the dems, or send all of the profits from your purchase to Japan.

I'll buy American, give the dems their 58 cents, and write a check to Republicans. Problem solved.

American workers get paid,  either way.   With the Japanese cars,  the profits leave the country.

Your issue is with the uaw giving to the dems ...   58 cents per vehicle, which you can easily nullify by giving ten times as much to the R's.

In the mean time,  those uaw workers are just after a paycheck,  like everyone else,  and the vast majority of the ones I know vote republican.

You're not buying anything from the uaw, and the car makers aren't the ones contributing.

In any case,  what is the greater harm,  58 cents per vehicle to the dems,  or thousands per vehicle leaving the country?

58 cents per unit...I am not sure if that is right or not, but we're talking about millions of cars...the UAW contributes millions of dollars to democratic politicians, no matter how the members vote.  (I also have a hard time believing most union members don't vote how they're told).

Also, none of the big auto manufacturers are strictly limited  to the their home countries...do you think Ford doesn't send domestic profits to Mexico for building plants and paying workers there?  Audi spent billions on a plant in Mexico recently too.

But the PROFITS from those US plants in Mexico come back here.  Ford is an American company.

As far as union members voting how they're told, who tells you how to vote?  UAW members are no different than anyone else.  Their vote is not based on who they work for, so if you buy a jap car, or even if you put the big three out of business, you aren't going to change who they vote for.

Here are the sources I used to come up with 58 cents per vehicle.

ETA:  Toyota gave about $500K to D's, and $600K to R's.  If you buy American, and give $2 to the R's, you've done better for them than buying a Toyota.
