Jacking the F-14 was actually the Most realistic part of the movie.
Just be glad you aren’t a pilot, or Every movie, and Every aviation thread, would be pure torture for you.
It was an OK movie, compared to all the other mediocre and profoundly terrible movies out there. Neither inspired or inspiring, but It wasn’t nearly as disappointing as Dunkirk, 1918 or The Hobbit(s). Those were awful. A blatant and deliberate waste of time and money, as if the directer was Mocking us.
Fwiw, Maverick was getting big kickbacks from Lockmart, plus he had a 2.5 million dollar life insurance policy on Goose, plus he had Generals and Congressmen giving him hot stock picks for 35 years. He’s not worried about bending a few rules, or a little metal.
Owning a Mustang for him, was not a stretch.
