Also they seemed to be trying really hard to channel the right stuff in the opening scene.

First they bastardized the Maverick car by naming a truck after it.
Now they bastardized James Garner?

Is there any originality left in this world?

My mom had a Maverick in the 80s. Not sure that thing CAN be bastardized. The only car she owned that was a bigger piece of shit was her Plymouth Reliant.

"Many parts"?  You mean like only the first ten minutes?

I really liked Predator until I found out aliens aren’t real.

It’s a f*cling movie not a documentary.

Two words: Suspend. Disbelief.

Most of it makes no logical or military sense. HOWEVER it was 0% woke, and had some fucking awesome fighter plane stuff in it.

I was entertained, NOT preached to, from start to finish, which is about all you can ask for these days.

Jacking the F-14 was actually the Most realistic part of the movie.

Just be glad you aren’t a pilot, or Every movie, and Every aviation thread, would be pure torture for you.

It was an OK movie, compared to all the other mediocre and profoundly terrible movies out there.    Neither inspired or inspiring, but It wasn’t nearly as disappointing as Dunkirk, 1918 or The Hobbit(s).    Those were awful.   A blatant and deliberate waste of time and money, as if the directer was Mocking us.

Fwiw, Maverick was getting big kickbacks from Lockmart, plus he had a 2.5 million dollar life insurance policy on Goose, plus he had Generals and Congressmen giving him hot stock picks for 35 years.   He’s not worried about bending a few rules, or a little metal.

Owning a Mustang for him, was not a stretch.

I thought it sucked, it was a complete rip off of the first one, and the acting was bad. Apparently I (we) are in the minority, which shows how retarded the World has become.

Wow OP, really edgy. Too bad there hasn't been a mega-page thread here for months before you shared your insights.

Stop wasting time on GD when you could be making big bucks as a film critic.

I know, it's a movie.

But

WTF?

1. Navy Capt has his own P51? What did he do? Bitcoin at $1?

2. The mission itself is totally Luke and the Death Star.

3. Probably the most famous pilot in the Navy and the youngsters don't know who he is when they throw him out of the bar.

4. Plane jacking the old Tomcat? LOFL.

5. Myles Teller needs more acting lessons.

Overall I can give only one thumb up and a solid meh.

It’s suspension of disbelief. Like Shakespeare with Hornets.

If you want to really get down to it, they’d just do it at night in a Lightning or B2 and it would be the most boring movie ever.

Black pilot passes out and almost loses his plane.
Woman pilot starts a second emu war and loses.
White Man Bob does his job perfectly,  brown Fanboy can't get his laser working.  White Man Rooster uses the force and makes up for his teammate's failure.
White Man Maverick saves the day and White Man Hangman saves Maverick and Rooster.
The only way it could have been less woke is if the ejection seats were linked together and Bob pulling the handle was the only thing stopping Phoenix from Kara Hultgreening herself.

Even the Death Star trench run concept was borrowed from a previous movie, which borrowed it from another movie previous to it.

Damn near every movie that does the “gotta hit this target in well defended zone” is a version of the Death Star trench run.  So is this one.  It’s completely silly and still I enjoyed watching it.

I agree however.  Standing alone as a movie.  Its good but not GREAT bu any means.  However obviously people liked watching it because the thing is a juggernaut of earnings.

More than anything what I was wondering, how the hell Tom Cruise still a captain and still in the Navy like 30 fucking years later?  The excuse in the movie is Maverick's been a bad boy, but like, seriously?

Meh, whatever.  Enjoy it for what it is, a fun movie to watch.
