I have had off and on again pain in my right index finger.  It's between the knuckle and first joint, on the outside palmer side.  It's a deep burning sensation usually when I flex the finger, such as hanging from it.  Yeah, I know, stop doing that.  Anyway, it will come on and last a week and then maybe go away for 6 months or a year.  I've been consistent with strength traing and grip work for decades, so I don't see where this is coming from.  It's also the same spot and only this finger.  Has anyone else had this?

I used ice/heat baths to alleviate symptoms last time my finger tendons flared up. That and rest are really all you can do in the short term.

After the pain subsides reintroduce grip work slowly and don’t neglect your extensors. You can make a rice bucket for little cost, and finger extensions against bands (I like the iron mind ones but you can find cheaper ones on Amazon or just cheap out and use multiple rubber bands) are useful too. You can also work extension by putting your hand palm down on a flat surface and extending the fingers against a smaller weight plate.

The main driver of tendonosis is endoplasmic reticulum stress.

Your age is probably where this is coming from as your melatonin and glutathione levels drop . Being specific where it is you may have a genetic defect playing in to it as well .

To address the endoplasmic reticulum stress Id hit a few of the bigger things after rest ; magnesium, TUDCA , and creatine . Melatonin and the acetyl version of glutithione wouldn't hurt .

Once tendonitis proceeds to tendonosis , its almost a self fueling fire , which is why it can take so long to get it healed . Also , the more times it happens and the longer it happens , the more the tendon material is remodeled to a cartilage type material and becomes weaker.

Don't rule out a doctor visit.  I recently thought I'd overworked a tendon or something like that.  Doc checked it out, looked at x-rays, said "Nope, it's arthritis that got flared up."   Getting old is fun.
