From Escapes up to F750’s.

For the purpose of this discussion, and understanding that the Maverick is based on the Escape, I say that the Hyundai will outlast the Maverick because there is no bigger piece of shit than the Ford Escape.

In our fleet, rare is the Escape that makes it to 100k on the original motor or transmission.

A garbage vehicle.

I think the original Ranger line was a great truck. My 1997 Ranger lasted forever.
Wish they would bring back something like that.

Ford has great margins on the maverick. They are keeping computer chips in the maverick for temp control display but taking them out of the f150.

Is there a supply limit on the Hyundai's though?

The Ford starts about $5k cheaper on base MSRP but the Hyundai has some features I like better on the higher end trims. But with the extra features the Hyundai is about $5k more still on the fully loaded models before adding any accessories to either one.

Motor Trend preferred the Maverick too. For what i'd use it for I think i'd lean on the Santa Cruz Limited though. I've turned into a prima donna in my old age so I like the ventilated seats and larger screens.

Have seen both in person.

Was pleasantly surprised with how the Maverick looked in real life.  Reminded me quite a bit of my oldschool Ranger work truck IRT dimensions too.

The Hyundai looks like hammered dog shit.  Completely "overstyled" - I'd take a damn Ridgeline over that abomination without even thinking about it.

Well right now Ford has several hot selling vehicles.

Bronco
Maverick
F- series

We are on the sidelines waiting for things to cool off so we can get a Bronco without the dealer mark ups.

That said, my son will be needing a car for school and a job in several months and I'm not looking forward to that process.

First thing I thought of too lol. As much as I like the features of the Hyundai the Maverick looks much better.

I wish Subaru would bring back a Brat/Baja. The outback wilderness with a bed would probably be a big hit.

You should know more about Escapes and Mavericks than you do then. The Escape comes with a 3 cylinder, which is probably a bit overtaxed, especially if your fleet regularly carries any sort of payload. Maverick is a larger I-4 in both powertrain options. The hybrid's "CVT" is not a mechanical belt CVT of the type made infamous by GM, Nissan, and others. It's a Toyota Prius-style two motor setup with a single fixed ratio planetary - very durable and proven setup.

I’m pretty familiar with the four pot Escapes.......there’s one in my driveway right now.

I have limited experience with the 2019 and up 3 bangers because we stopped buying them as our Fords are complete garbage.

I have 400 Fords right now. Over the years? I’ve managed thousands, and after years of shitty 5.4 engines and 6.0 diesels and 4R75 transmissions that can’t keep together and EcoBoosts that wipe water pump bearings and eat engines at 80k.......yeah, there’s a reason why my company (and many companies) are transitioning away from Fords in fleet applications.

You mean almost everyone who buys a full size truck?

Conservatively, 90% of people who own a truck don't need one, and even the Maverick is overkill for most people in relation to what they actually use their truck for.

Having lived in other countries, it's laughable what most Americans "need" a full size truck for.

~20 MPG on a $50k+ vehicle so it's easier to get a Christmas tree home one night a year, or driving down mild little dirt trails my wife gets down easily in her fucking CUV going to trailheads.

Trucks now aren't about "need" they are about "want" for the overwhelming majority of the market.

But hey, nothing wrong with owning something just cause you want it.

I'm not making any predictions, but just going by the sales reports... It's "enough truck" for 90+% of people. I'm getting the 4K towing package (4,000 lb capacity), enough to tow a small boat, trailer etc.. The hybrid version is returning fantastic 40+ MPG numbers in the city (hybrid only rated for 2,000 lbs though).. Even the AWD Ecoboost is getting 30+ MPG highway, but it still has enough power to be sporty, for a truck anyway. Truck bed could be a little longer, and I despise the lack of exterior LED bulbs ($$$ savings), but going by the dealers adding $10K+ markups it's becoming very popular. I think Ford will need to expand to other plants; currently only built in the Hermosillo (Mexico) plant.

There are already people working on tunes and mods, aftermarket is going to be huge I think.

https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/terminix-ordered-90-mavericks.14075/

Full disclosure: I've never owned a Ford, but my parents have. They weren't fans but this was 20+ years ago. My current vehicle is a Subaru Crosstrek, I owned a Dodge Dakota previously - V8 beast that got ~15 MPG. Never towed but helped lots of people move, including myself.

Seriously I think you're completely wrong, the Maverick is both inexpensive and better looking than the Hyundai thing which would be hideous with a lift and huge tires.

Not a truck today.

But our fathers generation truck albeit with a modern flair. Basic and utilitarian.

Today’s truck is a reflection of what our society values... the comfortable life.... size..... luxury ahhh so sweet.

Went Hyundai shopping with the in-laws today.  They had one Sant Cruz, but aren't allowed to show it, because the brake pedal has an issue (the honestly is either refreshing or inexperience).

One the way home, a Maverick drove past us.  A quick at a glance, but I thought it was interesting enough to take a closer look at a later time.  I always thought the Sport Trac would make a decent truck for anything I need to do.

Full disclosure, I drive a Ridgeline, therefore have no experience with trucks.
