Unlike other distributors that might sell a pallet or two a year. I sell a shit load of transmission fluids. I was the first Kendall customer to order full pallets of the ULV. I was the first Allison TES 668 customer in the country to order a full transport load (6500 gallons) of the product. We are just strictly by luck through customer base, huge in automatic transmission fluids. Which gives us enormous tail winds when allocations hit. We also have the ability to hold significant amounts of inventory. So we are just topping off inventory when we get allocated to 50% or less. Where as other distributors that rarely order it, will have 0% allocation. |

Full synthetic 5w40 (and the other rare 15w40, 10w30 and 5w30s) are not in good shape. Chevron basically told me they can’t produce any of the full synthetics right now. I’m actually playing nice with another Chevron distributor and selling them some 5w40. Because I have like… a lot. 6-10 months worth at our normal sales cycle. Again, due to the fact I can hold so much inventory. |

Someone else in this thread will make fun of me for posting this story. But I had a supplier call me today with Porsche spec 5w40. They’re getting 16 drums in for the country. I just told him I’ll take them all. Without thinking about it much. ![]() That’s my way of handling inventory right now. |

I can run 10W30 in my Cummins, and I may switch to that if needed especially since it gets annual oil changes vs. mileage based due to current driving habits. The Ecodiesel is a different story, so I stick to the recommended 5W40. Since that’s an alternate for my 2500 I opted to primarily stock one oil type. As an added bonus 10W30 is what my tractor runs, so I could just make the Ecodiesel the odd man out. |

| I think its important to look at the big picture. I have enough for 2 oil changes. Thats a year and a half of oil, maybe more. Fact is, if we get to a point where oil has become so scarce you need to have more than a year stocked then we have much bigger problems coming down the pipe that whether or not you can change your oil wont even move the needle of "Oh shit". My opinion. |

My opinion. I don't doubt we'll always be able to get some kind of lubricating oil, I just think the quality will be declining for awhile and it will be hard to tell what you're getting in the bottle, even at a higher price. We will be dealing with more Group I/II conventionals and blends with a paltry amount of Group III so they can say "synthetic blend" on the bottle. This is not the end of the world, but I value a 5W or 0W winter rating to go with an HTHS of at least 3.1/3.2, and that will start to get more scarce without full synthetics or blends with a more even mix of G3 and G2. Oil marketing can be pretty vague and does a great job of obfuscating its contents/ingredients and any performance increment over a minium standard. I think the minimum will be the standard going forward, and the API and some of the OEM's are even lowering that bar right now. If you lower your change interval back to 3,000 you might not have too many adverse effects. The additive shortages are the scary part though, as without those even lowering the interval won’t overcome the decline in performance. |

My opinion. From what Fox is now telling us, it sounds like the wolf, the one he warned us of back in March, is finally at the door. Oil is available, but it's getting pricier. And sketchier. The next pair of price spikes are probably going to be pretty big. The 5 quart jugs may be $50 each, or more, by the end of the year. Anyone who changes their own oil is going to want to be prepared before then. I'm also stocking up on oil and air filters because everything is likely to jump in price. Will there be bigger problems coming? Most likely, yes. I cannot imagine how things are going to look if diesel hits $8-$10 a gallon. My guess is things will get catastrophic for consumer pricing. With that in mind, prepping for other items as well is probably going to be smart. Who knows where we are going to end up. |

Wirth says he has not spoken to Trump since August 3, when Trump attacked him on Truth Social for not crediting the administration and demanded oil companies bring retail prices "DOWN, NOW!" I said in March, I didn’t want to be right. This would be much easier for me to just eat crow and look like an idiot on the Internet. I hear ya. My take, and I've said this before...there isn't enough money to pay me to be PGPA for a major right now. Wirth's "I told you so" in Austin, while true, plays a little too clean. The majors talk a lot about integrity and corporate citizenship, but the reality is diesel margins have been fat while the domestic consumer eats a $6/gallon average for the first time ever. I'm a free-market guy, but I'm also been in the industry long enough to know you don't shit where you eat. Anyone can see the export math while a CEO is warning about a "fuel crisis" is a bad look, even if every dollar of it is legal and rational. On the DPA, there's an active provision (Title I) that specifically covers mandatory allocation and pricing of fuel and feedstock. It's not the WW2-era broad price control title, that one's expired. But it's real, and it's fuel-specific. Doesn't matter if it'd survive a court challenge. This administration has shown it'll threaten the maximalist read of its own authority just to force a reaction, real intent or not, and I don't think Wirth wants to be the guy who calls that bluff in public in an election year. He's been around too long, and is too political, to make that mistake twice. My honest read: the industry is playing chicken with an administration that's shown it'll go loud, not just in the press but with whatever tools it can point to. My bet is this gets political before November regardless of who's actually right on the merits. If the House flips, the next round looks a lot like the last four years under Biden, just with different names attached, and the majors end up back where they started post-COVID, maybe worse off. It's a shame the industry keeps taking the black eye for the short-term win instead of playing the long game. I'm not trying to grind an axe here, this is genuinely disappointing to watch from inside the business. I may be living up to my arfcom persona a little much tonight. And I may be sipping on bourbon. But, the very last paragraph is key. It is disappointing. I’m not sure how much the viewers in this thread realize it. Who won’t. It’s going to be a hard winter in a lot of ways. Every earnings report at my company mentions the “cyclical nature” of the refining sector and the need to capture margins while they exist, and then they mention weathering the storm on the other side of the cycle. I won’t pretend to understand it completely, but at times they seem to operate like coked up addicts at the casino by “letting it ride”, and then when they’re losing having to pawn assets to make it through the tough stretch. Tiresome. |

UOAs showed it likes the Premium Blue 5W40 synthetic, so we’ll see how it likes the factory recommended 10W30. If for some reason the Cummins doesn’t care for the 10W30, I’ll just toss it in my tractor instead. ![]() That now gives me 9 gallons of 5W40 for my Ecodiesel. It’s due for a change this weekend and uses 2 gallons. I’ll pick up a single gallon and have 4 changes worth on hand at that time. The Jeep it’s in is our primary vehicle, so it gets the most miles and I run a 7500 mile OCI, which is a little less than a year typically for us. Still going to stash a few more 5 quart jugs of 5W30 as well, mostly to shield us from price increases for a bit. |

We’re just getting ready to start a small outage at HFSinclair in North Salt Lake (we’re a contractor), so regionally that will squeeze production a bit. Marathon has one planned in January 2027 I believe as well. On the plus side it looks like futures are down a bit this morning
