Just a bit of advice, if you buy one, buy a rebuild kit at the same time.

I bought mine at Lowe’s around 2011. Box is long gone. Got a call from the town this week, water usage is higher the last couple of months. Spent some time the last couple of days trying to find a leak. Crawling around under the house, everything dry. One of my access holes is next to the hydrant.

As I was crawling out, I heard something. Put my ear to the pipe, could hear water running. While I’ve been using the things for 30 years, I didn’t really know much about them. Dig it out, yep water running from the drain hole. Started to go to Lowe’s for a kit right then, but did some googling. Seems the bottom wears in a bit and needs adjustment. So that’s what that bolt up top is for.

So I loosened the bolt. With the water on. Pressure forced the rod all the way. A boot full of water isn’t fun. Shut off the water, put the rod about a 16th of an inch higher. No leak anymore.

Problem is, no brand on the hydrant other than China. Lowe’s changes brands like I change socks, hopefully the kits are universal. Glad I filled the hole with gravel when I installed the hydrant. Easy to dig out and refill.

Do you mean a hose bib? Because I somehow doubt you have a hydrant at your house.

I would be amazed if you have a lowes nearby but not a real supply house. Tradesmen usually buy from real supply houses due to revolving credit terms, product support, contractor pricing, and free delivery of materials. It's not that complicated.

I have four of the home Depot Chinese version & after a few years they've all started being a pain in the butt so I plan on replacing them with some tier1 hydrants soon.
I normally just always put a spare one on the shelf when I do projects like this but I would dying several parts kits with the good ones.
And the tier 1 vote is?

These guys might be able to help:  https://www.griggindustries.com/index.html

they have rebuild kits for a 25 year old hydrant that I didn't want to dig up and replace.

That being said, if the one you have is cheap Chinese crap, and easy to get to and dig up, maybe replace with a better brand like the ones already mentioned when it finally gives up for good.

I have had to rebuild mine once in a little over 20 years now and it is the same hydrant that was installed when the well was drilled in 1968.  I get my parts from a local feed store, I normally don't buy that type of stuff at Lowes or HD, the extra drive is worth saving the hassle with the Chinese stuff.

Woodford. I bought 2 of them last year. They are pricey compared to the cheap ones but seeing how much of a pita it is to change them it is worth it. They usually crack.

I have one very similar to the one pictured above..
I have a leak around the packing on the top of the shaft.
I can not get the packing nut loose...
Have tried heat, PB Blaster, Kroil and a lot of swearing.
Brass in cast and seized tighter than hell.
I can't get a socket or a box wrench on it..
I can't locate a 3/4" tubing wrench..
Any ideas on how to get this out without rounding it over or totally destroying it??
The "down pipe" goes through a 2" hole in the concrete so digging it up is gonna be a bitch.
Thoughts, Ideas??
Thanks.

In that situation if you have a froze nut situation, I would probably put a new head on it, you should be able get a new one and change it out in less than 20 minutes, sometimes it is worth it to save the frustration.

ETA: by the way, could you get a flare nut wrench on it?  If so, I have one I could send you that you could borrow to get it apart and put new packing in it.
