That is an impressive missile load! And from what I understand, the meteor is there a very impressive missile itself.
Having said that, I believe the F-15 X that we are now building carries something like 20 missiles, and the new air-to-air missile they are working on will be significantly better than the current AMRAAM. |

The Meteor, when it was first proposed(in the 90's), seemed like a hell of a missile.
At that point, you'd have compared it to the AIM-120A or B, and damn, it was nice. When you finally get it out of development hell, with IOC in 2016... Well, now you're up against AIM-120C7's and AIM-120D's... it's far less impressive. That's not to say it's a bad missile. Just that if I were to put my $$ on a weapon system... it would be AMRAAM. I have no faith that upgrades will be forthcoming, and you do see it in the AIM-120 family. |
