(I changed the title of this thread to help with context. It was meant to be a were you always pro trump or did it take getting there?) Took some out so its less of a self spotlight thread as it wasn't my intention.

My personal journey
During my teens I hated W and saw Republicans as the rich man's party. Hated McCain especially for how much of a hypocrite he was when it came to his so called fellow vets.

I saw after 2008 how much more screwed up the DNC was and I switched parties in 2010. I didn't always agree with the Republican party but I saw the bigger picture. I even held my nose and voted Romney in 2012.

To be honest when 2016 came around I was a Ted Cruz guy.  Laugh if you want but while he wasn't perfect I liked where he stood on things. When Trump won the nomination I was apprehensive but I voted for him even though he wasn't my first choice. 2020. While I didn't really care for him on a personal level I saw what the progressive left was doing.  That wasn't my America so again voted for Trump.

Fast forward to 2024. 4 years of Bidens bs and forcing America to fall in line or be destroyed.  When Trump got the nomination I told myself while pessimistic I hoped he had learned from previous mistakes and had grown as a person. Between all the legal shit he had to deal with and then the assassination attempt on him.....I think it humbled him a lot. What I saw out of Trump the final months of the campaign with Vance getting picked as his VP and then bringing in all these people that were once on the opposite side. Gabbard, Musk, RFK JR, Meghan Kelly and Joe Rogan at the end. What I saw was a guy who does want to be a uniter and not a divider.  Who wants the best for this country . I voted for Trump 3 times. 2016, 2020 and 2024. 2 times I voted thinking l simply won't vote democrat but I'm not the happiest with the choice. 2024? I happily pulled the lever for Trump.

I wish him the best during this term and I know in my gut that he's on the right path.

(Looking back to 2016 the GOP and its supporters were in a fight of their own) There were a lot of us down to 2 camps other than go trump go. Never Trumpers and those that would vote for him but would prefer another candidate.  GD was a battlefield back then but once Trump got the nomination we all rallied around him. I think i listened too much to the "He's a Democrat.  He's not a conservative " looking back his heart was in the right place but he was too trusting of those around him and it cost him sadly.

This is just my opinion and opinions are like assholes. So my question is were you always pro trump or did it take convincing?

I think a lot of us grow up with that mindset. With W it was the war in Iraq. I had a lot of good friends in school go over and come back fucked up. Just like my dad went to Vietnam and came back fucked up. It soured me a lot on the Republican party. Looking back my hatred was on the old guard Rino side of the gop which thankfully seems to be dying slowly.

Trump isn't a SWAMP creature they hate him as much as they hate the America of Our Founders

Watch that clip in the other thread of Obama berating Trump among the "elite"...

I initially voted for him in 2016 not because I thought he was the best pick, but because I sure as shit wasn't voting for Hillary, and frankly Trump was hilarious.

I figured if nothing else his presidency would be highly entertaining.

He turned out to be the best president in my lifetime.

Trump is absolutely going to be completely wrong and stupid on some issues. And I don't care. The Dems are a catastrophic dumpster fire that gets EVERYTHING wrong.

Counting primaries, I've now voted for Trump four times.

The liberal tears and screams will have me smiling for at least a couple weeks.

Didn’t read all your OP, OP, but I was a Cruz guy in 2016.  He was more conservative than Trump.  A LOT of people were for him.

Yeah, I was thrilled to vote for Trump, especially this time.

It’s cool to see people finally growing up, but here’s the main takeaway OP:    It’s not all about you.    It’s about whether America as we know it, will exist.

Trump will give us a chance to change the path we’ve on.   That’s all.

IMO -- you could be as 'reluctant' as you want -- as long as you voted for him in the end.

He ain't perfect.  I think some of what he says is frankly stupid.

But i am 110% glad he won -- and the leftists were dealt a crushing blow.  MAGA.

The USA will never be better by veering to the left.

Agreed.

Cruz is far and away a better conservative/constitutional politician than Trump.

Trump is far and away a better political leader than Cruz ever could be.

Trump thrives on the lefts hate.

No buddy.

Not all of us blindly follow one way or another. A lot of us have been disillusioned by the 2 party system. Its nice to see that Trump learned from his last go around and he's become an even more effective leader because of it.

The dems have become the party of hate and disillusionment.  Trump was a breath of fresh air and I'm glad he will lead the country again.

Good for you. My dad was sent to Vietnam by a Democrat and spent decades dealing with PTSD. He nearly strangled me to death in the middle of a flash back. My direct point is those at the top have no problem sending others to die while they stay out of it.

I think what he means is I've posted a few threads throughout the years talking about the system being broken.

And to clarify what someone else said yeah there are a bit of blind allegiance when it comes to Democrat vs Republican but it's fine.

It's probably at it's max with democrats due to the media and this idea if you ask questions you are a threat.

A big hurdle for me was understanding his boisterous talking.

Everything positive is "This is the best XYZ you will ever see!" or "It will be the biggest XYZ in the history of America!"  etc...

Everything negative gets the worst stamp with the same emphasis.

I wish he didn't do it but I have accepted it as his speaking mannerism.

No i didn't say that at all! Where are you getting that from? If you thought that's what i said then I really did drop the ball.

I was referring to in recent years especially since Obama. On the democrat side it's been "You support us or you are garbage." Look at how Harris got the nomination. No primaries or anything.

I was never gonna vote Biden or Harris, but I was less excited about voting for Trump this time than in 2016. He didn't accomplish a lot in 2016-2020 but I'm hoping he can at least rescue the economy from the crapper.

I'm currently at "benefit of the doubt" with Trump and hoping he learned a few things and will do better this time.

And for the record, all of our Presidents have been fucking terrible going back to Reagan, just with differing degrees of horrible. Reagan was the last one who achieved any meaningful improvements, lots of mistakes and some terrible moments but still meaningful improvements.

Not at the beginning. I don't recall ever outright hating him, maybe I did, it was eight years ago at this point, but I originally was in it for Cruz. I remember Cruz pulled some liar snake move though to try to shark delegates, and that's when I came around to Trump.

Been riding the Trump Train since the escalator in 2015.

It was clear to me even back then that America was being led down a ruinous path of governmental fiscal irresponsibility, overreach, nepotism, institutional racism & an insidious leftist ideology.

I saw Trump as our likely only chance to get a non-politician elected which I believed was our only chance of breaking the deep state’s & insane liberals grip on power.

And here I sit 9 years later with what I truly believe is our last best shot to save this republic from the bureaucrats & the lefts dream of one party rule.
Link Posted: Today 10:58:07 PM EST
[#43]
When Trump announced his plans to become president and came down the golden escalator I was going through a nihilistic apathy phase and dismissed him. To be fair I dismissed every political candidate and didn't even bother to vote for any one.  I was not even registered to vote. In fact, I had never voted for any one in my life. I was one of those "one vote doesn't count so why bother" kind of folks.   It's one of my great regrets in life and I am ashamed of this.

By 4 months into his presidency I had came full circle, registered to vote as a republican and became an avid trump supporter and have been ever sense. And I have not missed an opportunity to vote once.

I went with Trump in 2016 because I wanted to disrupt the system.

2020 because I thought he did a good job.

2024 because I think he gets it.

Never thought much of the guy until after he became President. I just considered him another bombastic businessman among many.

When he got elected in 2016 I was relieved mainly because we avoided having Hillary in office.

Then I saw his foreign policy and what he did with the State Department. I Never imagined that anyone would ever put a leash on those rabid mongrels.

I voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020, but he began losing me with the bump stock band and that terrible debate just before the 2020 election, and then with his election denialism. I was not going to vote for Trump in 2024 until they tried to assassinate him, twice. Maybe that's a stupid reason to suddenly vote for him, but it is the reason I came back 2 days ago. FWIW
