This one is my favorite. The dude in the lab coat just looks like trouble. I’m guessing he was there to maybe study the captured equipment?

Yeah. I think you got that one right. The guy in the lab coat looks like Big Time trouble.

I'd stay WELL clear of him if I saw him.

I think this is the man behind the camera. His last name was Morawitz. I may have spelled that incorrectly. I wish I could tell him that I’ve enjoyed looking at his photos and the boxes and boxes of his service ribbons and his campaign metals from World War II and Korea.  I hope you guys enjoy these. He has some pictures from what I believe is Korea because he did have those service ribbons as well. But they are not as interesting as these.

A black officer. Something rather rare but not wholly unheard of during WW2. Interesting. Was this a black unit?

ETA was this picture taken in Korea? The military was desegregated in 1948.

Then again maybe this was just some Irish bum and they made the Irish tea too strong that day.

I don’t have any idea. Somewhere buried deep in a closet I have those three cigar boxes. I’ll pull out as much as I can and take pictures of his unit patches. I’m sure the power of Arfcom can tell me what this guy was involved in during the war. But that will have to wait until dinner is finished.

No apologies needed here.

Who is-was the poster whose sig line was 'No apology is is necessary amongst friends'?
That was very profound.

Former 92nd Infantry Div.?   Just noticed he's in the Ordnance Corps.  The 92nd had some black officers in it (junior ranks).  When the 92nd Performed poorly in Italy, two black regiments were made into defense/service troops and the 442 Infantry (Japanese Americans) and another regiment substituted instead.

Note maj. gen (probably div co) and black lt. inspecting a platoon:

Two black GIs:

MPs:

Scouts w/Italian guide/informant?

I appreciate the feedback here.  Quick question, What would one do with these items.  I didn’t serve in the Armed Forces. I appreciate his service and fully respect the history and sacrifices he made, but these have been in my closet for 20 plus years.

I just found this.  His son died in 1988.  Major In the U.S. Army Buried at Arlington.

Anyone on here near The Long Island National Cemetery?  I would gladly mail a few of his Medals to be placed upon his Monument.  If that is even appropriate.

His son.

Thanks MonkeysUncle!

That is too small to be an 88.  It appears to be an axis anti-aircraft gun (notice the chutes for the ammunition clip on top).

Interesting photo, because the train car says in English “transportation corps” but the background shows bombed out buildings (maybe London?).

- so I wonder if these were captured axis weapons that were being prepared to be sent stateside for testing at war’s end?

After church I'll send you some links I've used that are helpful.   I see a few that I immediately recognize from my own Grandfather.

3rd Infantry (blue and whit diagonal stripes).  Either fought with them into Germany or was assigned to them during the post war occupation.

He was over seas a long time.  The gold stacked bars represent time served overseas...I think 1 = 6 months.

@Monkeysuncle69

I am on LI, that cemetary is about 15 minutes away from me if you absolutely want to do that. However I think they clean off the monuments and trash what is left, so it would be a waste. Better to give to a musem/memorial.

We have the Cradle of Aviation museum with a WW2 exhibit and the Museum of American Armor that I know of. I would be happy to take a drive wherever you want it to end up.

@Monkeysuncle69, my OCD was kicking in too hard. I had to reverse the ones with writing on them. I used http://pixer.us. Browse to file, upload, flip, horizontal, save, download

ETA: thanks for posting all these pics. Huge respect to the man who owned them.

From this picture, to to bottom, left to right, this is what I'm finding.

Discharge Card, American Campaign Medal, Officer Pin for Cap

American Defense Medal, United Nations Korea Service Medal  , Army Occupation Medal ETO, WWII Victory Medal

8 Overseas Service Bars (=48 Months total Overseas), 3rd Infantry Division,  Not sure on this one...could be a unit patch or something else.   Laurel wreaths are usually for meritorious service, so maybe given that he had 2 other patches he got to wear one with a 2 on it?

Good luck!

Thanks to everyone. And thanks for fixing the pictures. I’m at work right now but when I get home I’ll see if I can’t find some more of those negatives because I did not get them all developed.

Thanks!  It would be really interesting for sure.  My bet is definitely someone there to evaluate them and wearing a lab coat to protect his uniform from grease and oil.   It looks to be near a damaged warehouse or factory so would seem to be somewhere forward deployed, or maybe even post war Germany?

^Look how deep the track and fender got buried.

They put a jack under the gun mantlet to rotate the turret slightly, I gather that at a certain angle the corner of the KV-2 turret blocks the hull hatch from opening.  That must have been hard on crew survival rates.

Could have been worse though
