Honda's are his specialty, but he can refit any small engine. Last few years he'd been running a Predator 4K, whatever's in that range. Was satisfied with it, tho remarked a small plastic piece in carb throttle linkage had tendency to give out prematurely. I picked up a Predator 2K, and asked if he'd looked at em. Said he didn't think it would carry his standard load (fridge, two freezers, water heater with 120V elements, LED lighting, TV). I offered to let him 'test drive' the Predator 2K, and eventually he accepted. The 2K handled his daily load, and he purchased one. After several months I asked how he liked it. He said it cut his daily fuel consumption by half. He gave me the actual figures, from X gallons per day to X/2 gallons, but I don't recall--just the 2K inverter halved what the 4K 3600RPM noise maker used. And, hella quieter, too. He's out in the woods, and you actually have to stop talking and listen, to hear it. It's a tangible benefit, along with fuel economy. Inverters are the first significant improvement over the 1950's (older?) 3600 RPM genny design. Sure, it costs more up front. The older design sucks fuel. Take yer pick. Edit: Before I picked up my first HF 2K, I picked his brain about what I should buy. His first words were "get the smallest generator that will handle the load"--that bigger generators are thirstier to run. Nowadays, he says "you can run a lot on a 2K". |

Anyone have the open frame inverter made by Wen? It's a 3500/4000 unit. Looks nice for the price.

Well, I got my free Craftsman 7500-watt generator freshened up. I had $30 in Speed Perks at Advance Auto, so I was able to get oil, oil filter, spark plugs, carb cleaner, and fogging oil. I then took the $37 I had in credit card cash back for this past month and bought a new battery and a gallon of ethanol-free gas. That keeps me still firmly in the free category.
The initial start-up wasn't pretty, with it running rough and surging: https://youtu.be/JpOAPAnAflU I pulled the carb today, disassembled it, and scrubbed and sprayed the hell out of it with carb cleaner. Now the thing purrs like a loud kitten. https://youtu.be/NfEvdwyGIpU |

It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air, that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.

If you don't mind saying, how much did you pay and how long have you had it? We live in Hurricane Alley here and can potentially lose power for days at time if we get hit. Picked up a ryobi ryi2200a. Older non Bluetooth model for $200 bucks to put in our moto trailer, so I don't have to lug the big predator inverter around from the camper.
Going to give it a tune up, any one have a recommendation for a quality spark plug replacement. |

I’ve run it for the hours so far with two oil changes. My second hour was this afternoon. It starts right away and runs smoothly. I haven’t put a load on it yet. I think it was $350ish. Wen doesn’t charge tax or shipping so what you see is what you pay. So far, so good. |

Tax would add another $35 to the total. I'll probably pick one up. |

Are the inverter generator gas caps generally interchangable? I have this generator but can only find the one gas cap on ebay for $35. Lots of Honda for 12-15.

Looking for a generator for the fridge and small chest freezer. 547 watts on the fridge and 138 on the chest freezer. Not sure how I would calculate start up wattage, but I'm leaning toward the Champion 2500 watt dual fuel generator. Good for my intended purpose or should I look for something else?

View Quote My point was simply that with L1 and L2 differentiated by color, one can readily determine a 120V from a 240V circuit visually. It doesn't cost anything to wrap a small piece of tape, and does have some utility. May not be"required", but nothing to LOL over. |
