My wife and I ordered one of those Pet DNA kits off the internet. You know, like Ancestry.com and Embark, and a host of others. It comes in a returnable box (no postage necessary). It's expensive for a pet, around $100 bucks though. But very cool, when you really want to know what exactly your dog is. It has a large rough Q-tip type of gizmo and a sealed bottle of preservative or whatever. Swab the bottom cheek by the rear molars of your dog, making sure he/she doesn't try to eat it! LOL.. 10 seconds max. Do the step above BEFORE your pet eats or drinks - recommended, first thing in the AM... Pop the seal on the bottle, and insert the large Q-tip swab into the solution. Gently shake for a few seconds. Place it in the baggy, seal it up, and place everything back in the returnable box, and tape it shut. Log onto the website, create a registration/account, and type in the barcode numbers or scan it with your phone, etc... Type in the dog's name, age, weight, etc.. and what you THINK the primary breed(s) of you dog might be. Getting to the point: We did everything and chose Pitbull and Black Lab for my dog Reggie. Look at the results that came back! Wow...

Simply looking at Teddy you can tell he is a Golden Retriever mixed with something. The DNA test revealed 8 different dog breeds. Yep, Golden Retriever is one of them, and Rottweiler is another. His coloring certainly supports the Rottweiler and Golden mix. Come to think of it, he acts like a Golden when relaxed, and a Rottweiler when he's wearing his Ted of Security hat. Best Dog in the World. Except for those two TPLO. A third TPLO to fix the first. And the seizures, pesky Epilepsy. Still Best Dog in the World. And my best friend, hands down. By they way, I listened to a podcast by Vets talking about those dog DNA tests. Seemed to imply the dog will behave like the breed he most resembles. Teddy does. |

Yeah, did it with this little guy a few years ago. He was 50% chihuahua, 25% poodle, 12.5% spaniel and 12.5% king charles spaniel. Kinda surprised us what came up. RIP Dingo.

I did a DNA test on my last dog. He ended up being 1/4 lab, 1/4 golden retriever and 1/2 husky. Come to find out the neighbor had a Goldador female and was trying to mate it with a male Goldador but the other neighbors pure bred husky got to her first. He turned out to be a great companion and a good looking dog. he passed 2 1/2 years ago at age 12. That was him supervising us doing yard work Attached File |

I did one just for giggles for my cat. Turns out he is pretty much an average stray cat with a varied lineage.  No matter what, he's a good guy, just like your dog is I'm sure. |

I used the Wisdom Panel on my daughter's Pug. She is so small we thought she must have some other breed in the woodpile. We thought she was likely mixed with a Chihuahua. Her DNA came back and said she was 100% Pug. Attached File Attached File |
| I did the Embark DNA test for the Berner I got from the county shelter. Came back 100% Berner and included some likely relatives locally. I wasn't super concerned about the breed aspect, I did get her from the shelter after all, but I was curious about the possibility that she might have genetic issues. None found in the test so that's good. |
