The first autobiography from anyone in Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers is really great. I'm lisening to the audiobook and Mike narrates it, bringing another element of realism to it. He doesn't have a great reading voice like Andy Serkis or something but you can tell it's real and you feel his story about one of the best bands of all time. He tells it all true without disdain; he's a super humble dude with a lot of guitar influence in the world. He's a lot bigger than I ever realized, despite being my probably 2nd favorite band ever. |

Musician/band bio's are easily my favorite genre and I just finished reading Campbell's for the second time. He mentioned that his singing and his talking voice sound like Tom's and just a day or two ago, I came across a Youtube clip where he was being interviewed and if I had closed my eyes, I would have thought it was Tom Petty talking. Do we have a thread for recommended musician/band biographies? |

That was a really good memoir. Mike has never received the public acknowledgement of his contributions as a writer to the Petty catalog. I did see the Dirty Knobs show late last year where Mike told stories and played a setlist based on things from the book. Mike is not a gifted vocalist, but his musicianship is spectacular. Great shows if you can find bootleg recordings or videos. Attached File |
