| I have a 3x7 Shimano Tourney set up. I would like to go to a 1x as budget as possible. Is it possible to swap out the chainring for a single and keep the rear 7? I was originally going to change everything to a Deore, but if I can get away with just the front. I would like to do that. Thanks |

You have a square taper bottom bracket and crank set. If you stick with the x7 rear cassette/freewheel your best bet is probably a Chinese replacement crankset and chain ring. Like This Replacing the rear sprocket set is likely tl get complicated quickly involving your hub offsets and whether you have a freewheel or cassette style rear hub... Bear in mind, a big reason 1x drivetrains are popular now is the wide range ratios options on the newer x10-12 rear cassettes. By sticking with the existing 7 speed rear, you'll be losing quite a few options. I've still done it though on some mild use bikes, it's just a trade off to keep in mind. |
