So, it's evident that the home inspector was NOT thorough enough with our home inspection, because we found out the house (split level) had an illegal grey water system hidden in the basement walls. We found out about the grey water setup when the basement shower flooded and we had to inspect why. Well, these hillbilly idiots drained the grey water into the corrugated curtain drain buried around the house (approx 4' below grade). We had 2 "plumbers" come out and look at the problem and their solution? Just dig out to the bottom floor of the basement and plumb out another grey water setup to the creek (where the current system runs). I am beyond angry, as an illegal grey water setup is one thing, but what kind of moron drains something into a corrugated curtain drain??!!! We are 45 miles away from the nearest large town and none of the plumbing companies I called want to "come all the way out here". I am absolutely beside myself... HELP!

I feel your pain and wish I had some good advice for you, but if it was hidden in the wall I don't think you can blame the inspector. Any chance of going after the prior owner for failing to disclose?

Septic? It might be illegal in your area but you might be able to install a leach pipe just to handle the shower gray water. It’s the same thing that is leaching from your septic tank and won’t hurt anything.  I bet any conventionally draining pipe fix will require cutting concrete. I don’t know how your house is set up but if it drains down then probably needs the concrete cut and new pipes installed.

Another option, likely cheaper, would be to raise up the shower base so you can drain it into a lift pump. Or, cut a hole and install a lift pump near the shower. I’d probably do the lift pump.

If you can post some pics especially overall pics we can try to make some recommendations.

So you’re saying that your waffle stomp drain is hooked into your curtain drain?

How old is your house, OP? My parent's house has separate septic and grey water drains, but it was built in the '50s. A new house wouldn't pass inspection with that type of system, but back then nobody cared and their house is now grandfathered in.

It shouldn’t be that hard to dig it up and reroute it to the pipe heading to the creek.

That’s odd.
