Hello everyone. I’m building a home next year and I would like some very basic cameras. I’m not a tech guy and don’t care to be I just want user friendly and easy to set up. Also not looking to drop ton of coin into them. I’ve never had security cameras before but I am thinking the following locations: Opposing corners in the garage to cover the exterior door and overwatch of garage. Rear covered deck at an angle to cover anyone approaching rear door. Maybe one in my outdoor kitchen on the rear deck (more for critters than people). Walkout garage door, also covered. Front porch door, also covered. In my man room to watch the vault door, and liquor cabinet. Coworkers have suggested blink and arlo. Any other suggestions? ETA: I’m not sure if this matters but my internet is Starlink and we use Mac/apple products. |
| My nephew installed cameras by Eufy recently. Said it was very easy to set up. Solar powered, motion detecting, and records to a local device using your WiFi network. He showed me the video of what it looked like at night and the night vision was very sharp and clear. I may replace my system. |

I may replace my system. I have a Eufy S3 that pans/tilts. Have have had it for 5 or 6 months and have been happy with it. Depending on the vehicle, it picks up mid driveway. Then will track an individual to the door to where I can see them standing at the door. Records any talking. For example, the tax assessor came to my door and it recorded our conversation. I also got a kick out of watching my wife's interaction with the Jahovahs Witness that stopped by one day. Solar has kept it charged with no issue. That being said, we will see how it does this winter especially with ice. |

Run ethernet *everywhere*. Think you want a camera somewhere? Run an ethernet cable or two there. Cables to ceilings for AP's. Several ethers to anywhere that might have a smart tv, game console, etc. Utility room? Pull a few there too. Attic better have at least half a dozen cables up there. Cable's cheap when you're building, much more expensive after its built. Don't have to terminate everything all up front. |

I would run Ethernet cable, protective jacket if you can. I'd make two runs to every corner, and two on each face split evenly across the center line, front door, back door, side doors if you have them, etc. I'd also make a run to the garage, patio, etc. I'd also have receptacles installed in the corners for Christmas lights. CATx is cheap. |
