We have a laser welder at work. It has some impressive capabilities and some concerning problems. Every welder who has used it has cut at least one hood. Laser can make some great welds. For manual/ hand held production work, I haven't seen the equipment and PPE to make it practical. |

So maybe they’ll get a lot cheaper soon. Or I can get one used. The main thing I’d like to do is burn off rust on an old Karmann Ghia and other auto body applications. Something better than sanding, grinding, sandblasting and acid washes. The cutting looks like it sucks. I have a little Miller 120v welder that’s great for thin sheet metal. Just need a rust blaster. There’s very little rust but the car is in amazingly good shape and I don’t want to mess up the one piece Italian body. |
