The red shirts in Star Trek die all of the time.
It's a given that if a dude with a red shirt gets beamed down he's a gonner. Well... Scotty was a red shirt, and he was beamed down (Relics episode). What gives? Factoid: the words "beam me up Scotty" were never said on the show. |

Of all the red shirted crewmen shown, only 10% were killed. I have no idea what the percentage of crewmen who "beamed down" is. Probably a lot higher.
But Scotty was a certified badass.
