“Organized religion” and Christianity are not the same thing.

Matthew 7:21-23
King James Version
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The Four "Orders" in Church Government
The New Testament teaches that all four "orders" which form the government of the Church-laity, deacons, presbyters,
and bishops-are necessary to the proper functioning of the body of Christ. All four are clearly visible in Paul's first letter
to Timothy.

1. The laity are also called "saints" (Rom 1:7; 2Co 1:1; 1 Ti 5:10), the "faithful" (Eph 1:1), and "brethren" (Col 1:2).
The laity (Gr. laos) are the people of God, the "priesthood" (1 Pt 2:4-10). Technically, the term "laity" includes the
clergy, though in our day the word usually refers to those in the Church who are not ordained. It is from among
the laity that the other three orders emerge.

2 The deacons, literally "servants," are ordained to serve the Church and must meet high qualifications (1 Ti 3:8-13).
The apostles were the first to take on the service tasks of deacons, and when the workload became too great
they called for "seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over
this business" (Acts 6:3). Besides serving the material needs of the people, deacons occupy a crucial role in the
liturgical life of the Church.

3. The presbyters, or elders, are visible throughout the New Testament. Their ministry from the start was to "rule,"
"labor in the word," and teach true "doctrine" (1Ti 5:17) in the local congregation. Paul "appointed elders in every
church" (Acts 14:23) and later instructed his apostolic apprentice, Titus, to do the same in Crete (Tts 1:5). From
the word "presbyter" came the shorter form "prest," which finally became "priest." In no way is the ordained
Christian priesthood seen as a throwback to or a reenacting of the Old Testament priesthood. Rather, joined
to Christ who is our High Priest "according to the order of Melchizedek" (Heb 5:6, 10), the Orthodox priest is
likewise a minister of a new covenant that supersedes the old.

4. The bishop is the "overseer" of the congregation and clergy in a given area. Often the terms "bishop" and "elder"
are used interchangeably in the New Testament (Acts 20:17, 28), with the bishop being the leader of the elders.
The qualifications for bishop listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:7 2 underscore this role. Nonetheless, the
bishopric is a specific office both in the New Testament and in the early Church. The Twelve were the first to
hold this office (in Acts 1:20 "office" could literally be translated "bishopric") and they in turn consecrated other
bishops to follow them. For example, Timothy and Titus are clearly of a separate order from that of elder (see 1Ti
5:17-22; Tts 1:5). Early records show James was bishop of Jerusalem by AD 49 and functioned accordingly at the
first council there (Acts 15:13 22). Peter is on record as the first bishop of Antioch prior to AD 53, and later first
bishop of Rome, where he was martyred about AD 65.

Perhaps the strongest early reference outside the New Testament to the presence of the four orders in church
government occurs in the writings of Ignatius, bishop of Antioch from AD 67-107,
the very heart of the New Testament era.

To the church at Philadelphia (see Rev 3:7-13) he writes of "Christians [laity] at one with the bishop and the
presbyters and the deacons" (italics added).
In the Orthodox Church, authority is resident in all four orders, with the bishop providing the center of unity. His
authority is not over the Church, but within the Church. He is an icon of Jesus Christ,
"the Shepherd and Overseer [lit., bishop] of your souls" (1Pt 2:25).

Church leadership does not consist of one or more of the orders functioning without the others.
Rather the Church, with Christ as Head, is conducted like a symphony orchestra, a family, the body of Christ,
where all the members in their given offices work together as the dwelling place of the Holy Trinity.

The man who cries out against evil men but does not pray for them will never know the grace of God.

When someone disconnects from "Religion" or "Church" in the name of a "personal" relationship it sounds like they have rejected the real "Jesus Christ" of the Bible and invented their own version of a counterfeit Jesus. It kind of sounds like they have made themselves a prophet who will reinterpret or filter out anything in the Bible they disagree with.  It's a power trip, an inflated ego, rejecting many of Jesus' teachings in the name of a "personal relationship" with a "personally invented" counterfeit Jesus.

A personal relationship with Jesus Christ is something I found at Church and I continue to experience it in his presence.  At a Catholic Mass heaven opens and the real presence of Jesus Christ is there in the Eucharist. He gives us his Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity with Communion and he dwells within us. That's a "real presence" "personal" relationship with Jesus.

You still need to go back to the thread started by Bishop3, "When will you believe and accept the church is every born again believer?"
You still have not discerned the body or just can't.
You must be born again, born of the Holy Spirit to discern.
Take up your cross and follow JESUS.

Are we just throwing out random snippets of the Bible and trying to form coherent thoughts?

“Discerning the body” is in 1 Cor. 11 written by Paul and is literally about the Eucharist.   I’ve never seen this singular passage used for so many completely random things outside the Lord’s Supper but on this forum.

“You must be born again” is in John 3 and is clearly from Jesus about baptism.   He doesn’t say anything about discerning the body (Eucharist) in that chapter. John does record the necessity of the Eucharist in John 6 if you wish to read it.

“Take up cross and follow Jesus” from Matt. 16, implies doing as Jesus did and obeying his teachings. Which includes baptism, eating His flesh and discipleship from appointed authority in His Church.

Jesus said you must be born of water and the Spirit.

“You just have to discern the body, it’ll all make sense.”

Jesus said if you do not eat His flesh you have no life in you.

“Have you tried discerning His body?”

Jesus said the Church…

“Naw man we just over here discerning the body, yo.”

This is a fairly accurate conversation on this forum.

I know what Paul meant by discerning the body, that much is fairly clear. I think these guys mean accepting whatever novel interpretation of whatever random passage they come up with as ‘discerning the body’ and that’s frankly insane.

To find connection with God, I personally cried out to Jesus. There is power in His name. He came to my rescue. Thank you Jesus.

To be certain, Amen amen, you must be born again (born from above). Born of God, born of His Spirit. Without that regeneration (born from above) of the Holy Spirit you will not see the kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is near!

I didn't call out to my church. I cried out to the Savior! There is your connection! God came to my rescue and manifested Himself to me personally. Jesus Christ has come in the flesh.

Now false religion loves its exclusivity. What did Jesus rebuke the unbelieving Pharisees for? They burdened people with mam made rules so as to be acceptable or qualified to receive from God.

Go to church, we are designed for community. That is the assembly of the called out and God loves fellowship (family)! Where two or three are gathered in His name, He is in their midst. The truth is, there is one body.

Jesus, through His shed blood, has fulfilled the law perfectly once and for all. The prophets have all testified to the Word of God.

Pay attention:
Love has fulfilled the Law and we are saved by His gift (grace, charis) through faith. Do you believe this? Or, do you judge yourself? It is the Lord who judges me.

Jesus is who He says He is.
Know who you are in Him ('Christ in you, the hope of glory'), then you'll have in you the connection with God you so desire. An religious institution can not substitute for knowing Him (this is the will of God).

Pay attention all ye church goers. If you have an ear, listen.

Joel 2:32
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the Lord calls.”

Acts 2:21
(Peter the Lord's Apostle quoting Joel at Pentecost)
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Romans 10:13
(Paul quoting the same promise)
“For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”

God keeps his promises (His Word), He's not like us men! It is impossible for Him to lie. Who will you compare Him with?

God wants you to know Him, Jesus is the Way.

John 17:3
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

John 17:25-26
O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me.
I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
  ~ Jesus

I know who I am in Christ. God is my Father. Jesus is Lord. The Holy Spirit is my witness.

You can say you know Him, but does He know you? Jesus is the Son of God.

Have You not heard or read the scriptures from GOD? Let's look at some. Matthew 16:27 >For the Son of man shall come in the glory of His FATHER with His angels, and then He shall reward every man according to his works.
Hebrews 11:6 >But without faith it is impossible to please Him (GOD): for he that cometh to GOD must believe that HE is, and that HE is a rewarder of those that diligently seek HIM.

I will stand alone to give an account of my works before HIM only, whether they be wood, hay, or stuble. Or, whether they be gold, silver, and precious stones.

Lastly, Matthew 6:3-8 ~JESUS. You can read HIS Words there.

There is actually a book by that title as well.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/1683571169

"In Counterfeit Christs, Trent looks at eighteen phony versions of Jesus that we encounter today.
Some are the creation of non-Christians: like skeptics who dismiss Jesus as a fictional composite
of ancient myths, secular humanists who think he was just a Nice Man, or adherents of other religions
who claim him as a prophet or guru in their own tradition. Others stem from Christian or quasi-Christian
theology gone so far wrong that its founder is no longer recognizable. Think of the greed-affirming Jesus
of prosperity gospel preachers or the sects that strip Christ of his divinity. And of course there are
enthusiasts for ideological causes who make him a model Marxist (or Democrat or Republican), or
enlist him as a convenient spokesman for tolerance of the thing they want to do or promote.
In all these examples and more, the authentic Jesus of Scripture and Tradition is obscured by a
pale imitator, and so is the saving power of his wisdom and grace. Read Counterfeit Christs,
then, and be able to recognize the fakes when you see them, explain why they re phony, and
make a case for the full truth and beauty of who Jesus is: the Christ, son of the living God (Matt. 16:16)."

No, what I am saying is that a relationship with God does not need a human intermediary.

No, what I am saying is that a relationship with God does not need a human intermediary.

Not that you can't have one while also having intermediaries, but why then did God always use intermediaries?  The only time God did not use intermediaries was the short span of time that Jesus was preaching, and setting up intermediaries... as an intermediary.

There's nothing humble about intentionally stupefying yourself and creating a church of one.

You still need to go back to the thread started by Bishop3, "When will you believe and accept the church is every born again believer?"
You still have not discerned the body or just can't.
You must be born again, born of the Holy Spirit to discern.
Take up your cross and follow JESUS.
Are you denying yourself?

Do you fast?

Do you give to charity or otherwise help anyone in need?

Do you attend corporate worship  services every Sunday, and tithe to Christ's church?

Have You not heard or read the scriptures from GOD? Let's look at some. Matthew 16:27 >For the Son of man shall come in the glory of His FATHER with His angels, and then He shall reward every man according to his works.
Hebrews 11:6 >But without faith it is impossible to please Him (GOD): for he that cometh to GOD must believe that HE is, and that HE is a rewarder of those that diligently seek HIM.

Matthew 16:24,25
Then Jesus said to His disciples,
"If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself,
and take up his cross, and follow Me.

16:25 "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.
NOTE

16:24 The cross, a dreaded instrument of Roman punishment,
is also a symbol of suffering by Christians in imitation
of Christ. We practice self-denial for the sake of the love of God
and the gospel.
Accepting this suffering is not punishment,
nor is it an end in itself, but a means to overcome the fallen world
for the sake of the Kingdom and to crucify the flesh with its passions
and desires (Gal 5:24).

16:25 The central paradox of Christian living is that in grasping for
temporal things, we lose the eternal; but in sacrificing everything
in this world, we gain eternal riches that are unimaginable (1Co 2:9).

Matthew 6:16-18
16_"Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a
sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear
to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
17 "But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
18 "so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father
who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will
reward you openly.
NOTE

6:16-18 Keeping a sad countenance to show off one's fasting is mere
external display. Jesus rejects such hypocrisy. For the one who fasts,
the compassion of God outshines the physical discomfort.

During the fasting seasons of the Church, the hymns call the faithful to
wash and anoint their faces (thus, there is no "Ash Wednesday"
in the Orthodox Church).

Fasting is for spiritual growth and the glory of God, not to be seen by
those around us.
Fasting also is not merely abstinence from food, but consists of self-denial
in all areas of life in order to escape the control of the passions.

On the eve of Great Lent, we sing, "Let us abstain from passions as we
abstain from food."

Matthew 4:1-4
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.
3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son of God,
command that these stones become bread."
4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God "

NOTE

4:2-10 Jesus reverses Israel's falling to temptation in the wilderness.
The Israelites were tested forty years in the wilderness and
proved disobedient and disloyal
.
God humbled them by first letting them go hungry and then
feeding them with manna to help them learn to be
dependent on Him (Dt 8:2-5). Here, Jesus is tested with
hunger for forty days, but He does not sin. His answers to Satan
are from Deuteronomy, and all call for loyalty to God.

Jesus fasted to overcome temptation, giving us an example of
our own power and limitations in the face of temptation.
The hunger of His flesh does not control Him; rather,
He controls His flesh. Our Lord's fast of forty days is
the foundation of the Church's forty-day Lenten fast before
Holy Week and of the fast before Christmas.

4:3 The devil challenges Christ's relationship to the Father.

If You are the Son of God calls into question the Father's
declaration at Christ's Baptism (3:17). The devil wants Jesus
to act independently and to detach Himself from the will of
the Father.

In His divine nature, Christ shares one will with the Father
and the Holy Spirit; He can do nothing of Himself (Jn 5:30),
apart from the Father. But in His humanity, He possesses
free will and at all times must choose to remain
obedient to the divine will of the Father.

Genesis 14:18-20

18 Now Melchizedek the king of Salem brought out
bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High.
19 He blessed Abram and said, "Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Creator of heaven and earth;
20 and blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies
into your hands." Then Abram gave him a tithe of all.

The man who cries out against evil men but does not pray for them will never know the grace of God.

Why did you skip/ignore Matthew 6:3-8 in my reply to your questioning? Since your trying to evangelize/indoctrinate me? You are unable to teach me anything. Who sent Jesus to the Roman's for crucifixion?  The Pharisees.  The leaders of the church in his area.  In the early 2000's I did a lot of on-site IT work for several local churches.  Most of the preachers made a lot of money, drove expensive cars, had expensive homes, and expensive computers.  One went to prison for stealing.  They claimed their parishioners wanted them to live well.  I thought that was an excuse.  I did some work for one who lived a very simple, very modest life.  I respected him.

Sorry but I do not trust rich preachers.  Preachers are human just like me.  Most are not smarter than me.  Many are corrupt.  If somebody challenged their power and lifestyle they would sell that person out just like the Pharisees did to Jesus.  The Bible and the 10 commandments are not complicated.  If you make a commitment to following the word and living you life as the best person you can without compromising yourself you do not need a preacher to tell you what to do.  If you need an organized religion to find  a connection with God than you probably will never find one.  It's something you can only find on your own within yourself.  It's called a personal connection for a reason...

Every person in the world has a personal relationship with God.
I don't see why people who don't go to church, and protestants,
claim they're the only ones to have personal relationships with God.

Most Orthodox Priests are anything BUT rich. Low to middle income is where they sit, depending on the parish.

Neither his conclusion nor the preachers in question are likely "Biblical," to the extent that's the supposed standard here.

It's amusing to see people bash and reject the Church by citing people and groups that reject the Church. But that happens a lot in GD.

^^^ Amen to the truth. Well put and discernment given by The HOLY SPIRIT. They that argue against this do not have and can not be taught by JESUS' Spirit, because they have not been born from above by the One Spirit to receive. One LORD, One Spirit, One faith, One body, One baptism.

Yes, I told you truth. Once again, 1 John 27~  But the anointing which you have received of Him (He who has promised) abideth in you, and "you need not that any man teach you": but as the same anointing teacheth you of "all" things, "and is truth", and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, you shall abide in Him.

You reject the WORD in your dead religion. I believe GOD. I told you I know in whom I have believed, and HE knows me. HIS Spirit beareth witness. I will no longer cast pearls to swine.

The author of that epistle interpreted it the way you do, why even wrote it?

If the recipient interpreted it the way you do, why even read it? And definitely why keep it? Shouldn't he have just said "you're not the boss of me, I can't learn anything from you?"

But, you do you. You're in popular, if not good, company.

I was raised in a crazy controlling religion and became an atheist when I left it.
As I approached 50 I came back to God.
This time without religion.
I can't be bothered going to a church.

He's in diminishing company, by my observation. I was the greeter last Sunday so I came in last. I couldn't even find a place to sit down in the side I normally sit in. I walked all the way up and down the row of pews. Thirty minutes later, I noticed a single-person-sized pocket on the other side and grabbed it. It is ordinary time. There was no baptism. There was absolutely nothing remarkable about that service. When I told my Catholic friend about this, he mentioned that his own Mass was unusually full. There wasn't anything special happening at his parish, either.

If you believe in the Holy Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
and that Christ came down from Heaven for us men and our salvation,
and was crucified for us by Pontius Pilote, was buried, and rose on the
3rd day and ascended into Heaven, you are religious.
You have a religion.
The man who cries out against evil men but does not pray for them will never know the grace of God.
