... was working in Manhattan during the big Northeast blackout of 2003. Luckily, it was a Friday and we got off work "on time" for once. Made it all the way up (26 floors) to my room just as it blacked out. My rudimentary survivalist skills saved the day for a young woman and her two small kids. She was near panic with no food whatsoever - so I robbed the maids goody stash for stocking rooms with that option. She would have kissed me. Many of the folks that hosted me had to walk miles home that night, many camped out in the office https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/eb/Map_of_North_America%2C_blackout_2003.svg/800px-Map_of_North_America%2C_blackout_2003.svg.png View Quote I'm sure when GM finally sells off the Lordstown plant there will be very small print in the contract that will absolve them of any responsibility and liabilities due to past power outages covering the entire northeast US resulting from the co-gen plant at Lordstown being operated in an under-voltage condition for one or more shifts leading up to said blackout. |

Quoted: Maybe it will last long enough for canabalization of as many progressives as possible. We are having monsoon storms here in AZ. We have no problem when the power goes out, usually walk out and say high to the neighbors, see if anyone needs anything. Then grilling for dinner or back inside for some fun card games with a our emergency/camping lanterns and candles. View Quote |

I just turned on Fox news. Power has been restored. You can see the buildings and a bunch of signs in Time Square are lit up. I think the only issue now is the traffic signals.

Is it still happening? I don't want to miss Manhattan's downfall.

watching fox news now
they are showing news conference now lot of power still out 73 k people affected 6 networks were down 2 have been restored starting at 10pm think rest will be restored by midnight still don't know what happened - not related to excess load can't say what were the explosions that were reportedly heard there were reports of a fire in a manhole, but needs to be looked at lights just went on, now 5 of 6 networks restored reporter just asked about deblasio - the spokesperson refused to answer it and tried to kill the press conference - just said something along the lines of 'the mayor is aware of the situation' and walked away |
|
Deblasio is on his way back. He's done for sure now. Guy can't manage shit. He's no Rudy.
Too bad Riker's has power. |

Probably a snake, a squirrel, or some other critter sneaking around where they shouldn't be.
Most likely a snake. |

Listening to FOX you'd think these people survived a nuclear attack.

Why the fuck were people forced to leave their hotels just because the power was out?

Here's an odd coincidence, there was another manhole fire at 4th and Market in Philadelphia earlier today that killed the power in the Old City area for several hours:
Fox 29 Inquirer Obviously a lot smaller impact than all of Manhattan going dark, but it seems weird that one of the big tourist areas in Philly lost power on the same day and for the same reason. |

Thanks. I just had a seizure.
