You're wrong. What religion started WW1?  WW2?  Mao's and Stalin's mass killings/starvation?  Add up the hundreds of millions killed in the 20th century and let me know how many were the result of religion.

Communism and socialism are religions in which secular authority replaces the devine.

This is a bad take.   You don't get to call secularism a religion and then pretend religion has killed more people.  Besides, he was responding to a meme about God.

Religion acts as a counterbalance against an overbearing secular government, which is why destroying the churches is the first thing the communists did.

In America and most of western society religion is separated from government and acts as a counterbalance. This is part of the brilliance of our founding fathers.

This is not the norm for the rest of the world or human history. Religious edicts/instructions that carry the weight of law are very common. The socialists and communists were destroying the competition when they destroyed churches. It was a pure Machiavellian move.

Men have been killing one another since the dawn of time. Sometimes religion is used as a justification but even then it's not always the real reason. Sometimes it is the real cause. If the 20th C has proved anything it's that murder and genocide happen at a much greater rate due to the absence of Judeo-Christian faith and morals.

Interesting how atheists, who "don't care what others think" are so triggered when others dare to post something which makes them confront their reality.

Northern Ireland was where the Brits most heavily practiced their pacification through population program, flooding the area with British citizens and displacing the local population. Therefore, in the eyes of the (mostly Catholic) native Irish, all Protestants were probably British. This was borne out by voting patterns, and was the reason Northern Ireland voted to remain within the British Empire when the rest of Ireland, which hadn't been filled with (mostly Church of England Protestant) British transplants, voted to become independent in the early 20th century.

Surface level thinking really does cause confusion, doesn't it. Lots of people tend to know more than they know, if you get my drift.

Quite a lot of folk don't look much further back than "the troubles" and overlook the Irish War of Independence, the formation of Eire by the 1921 Anglo-Irish Treaty and the splitting of Ireland into two zones; Eire for the Catholics and Ulster for the Protestants. That should have seen the matter resolved....but some folk are never happy....so a good job the Marxist IRA were on hand to drive home their point of view using IEDs and doorstep assassinations, etc.
Doesn't change my point that it wasn't a religious struggle. Certain of the Irish were also willing to support Hitler so long as he was killing Brits.

When you call the king/emperor/lord/pharaoh, descendants/representatives of god, and enforce their edicts as rules from on high, what you have is more the powerful wearing religion like a skin suit than religion.
