I went to a Montessori style public school in Charlotte, Elizabeth Elementary, in the mid 70s to escape getting bussed into the hood. Funny thing is the school was still in downtown and backed up to a large city park. It was awesome. We had some pretty cool electives too. My favorite was one where they'd have WWII vets come in and talk about their experiences and some brought souvenirs.

That’s the PATH at the WTC in Manhattan. That might be the only one actually working.

My dad was a WWII vet. He would have been 100 years old this year. The Vietnam vets I know are in their 70s minimum. Time flies.

Guess that I will have to get a Paleontologist as a doctor as I remember WW1 vets selling poppies for a dime on the corner on Veteran’s Day.

Do we have any living ww1 vets around?

I’m ashamed to say I’ve never met one.

The last US WWI vet attended my church when I lived in Martinsburg.

Saw him a few times at church, met him and said hello once.

That is Eric Clapton who is famous for Cocaine (the song) and is accused of stealing from black artists.
He also wrote the song "Tears for Heaven" when his son fell from a 53rd floor window in his ex-wife's apartment.

Wouldn't say I knew him, he probably came to our church maybe 4 or 5 times when I was there. Once for an occasion he was in his wheelchair in the foyer as we were leaving and I said hello. Dude was 100 we didn't hang out or anything

Now?  Even if they'd signed up as a teenager towards the end of the war they'd be nearly 120 years old at this point.
