About 6% state income tax.

Property taxes are pretty reasonable in most places.

AR has no income tax. Property taxes are low too. It does have a high sales tax but you only pay tax on what you spend, not make. I pay about the same property tax on 240 acres as I did for 5 acres in MI.

I'm in the 35% Federal tax bracket. On top of that I pay $14k property tax on a one-bedroom house on four-tenths of an acre (because it's on a lake - they asses everything from the water frontage to the view). Then there are scores of hidden taxes - look at your phone bill, for example.

When I add them all up, I am easily forfeiting over half of what I make. And yet the nation is $22 trillion in debt. How long is this sustainable?

Everyone bitches about how their looted monies are spent. I complain about by treasure being thrown at the feet of welfare bunnies and illegals, my hippie neighbors bitch about their treasure being wasted on the "military industrial complex" and corporate bail outs.

Neither one of us is happy with the situation, and yet, here we are. Complaining loudly and voting for the least odious options.

Since you don't have a state with your screen name, have no idea which state you are complaining about.

I would suggest you give TN a try. We have a sales tax and City and County property taxes, which are relatively low in most places, but no state income or property tax.

Our property taxes are mostly school taxes.  We build new $30,000,000 high schools to keep the football team more competitive with smaller schools, then the school board raises the tax a little more.

Hey man it’s just the cost of living in a civilized society.

That has to pay for actions from three centuries ago.
That is sick with corruption.
That has a large amount of incompetent citizens.
That spends money like a crackhead on payday.
That Seeks to remove all the characteristics that made it successful in the first place.

...I mean, what you gonna pave you own roads, fight your own fires man?  We NEED that tax money.

Oh and we need a higher percent next year too, for the children.

The sickening waste of a good portion of my taxes is what makes me angry. The global trade welfare, national welfare, welfare/payments to other countries, worthless wars and world policing. Yea, we could have more freedom and pay a lot less taxes.

Anyone with an ounce of intelligence is capable of understanding the necessity for having SOME type of taxation in a modern society.

Our government and a large portion of the population believe that others may better serve them than they can serve themselves using financial means...

...and those same people think there is a pile of money somewhere to PAY for EVERYTHING.  Meanwhile the charity VISA that is the US economy is hot as a blazing inferno.

So don't put yourself in a taxable situation.
EG  investments, lottery earnings, stocks, bonds, etc etc.
Everything is taxed when you take your untaxed labor money
and invest in interest bearing accounts.

Carefully read the W4 that you sign and in most cases you are exempt.

There are no statewide income or sales taxes in Alaska—in fact, residents receive annual checks from the state just for living there (the Permanent Fund Dividend). That doesn't mean Alaskans pay no taxes at all, however. There are still local sales taxes, which range from 0% to 7.5%, as well as property taxes.

Alaska ftw

Now, most are forced to pay 22-25% before the direct deposit hits. Plus 9.95% sales tax, plus property tax, wheel tax, ammo tax, etc.

You could increase your dependents so less is taken out, then start your own small "business" in your "home office" and file a schedule C profit and loss statement. Instead of paying the IRS invest in yourself, and do something with the money.

If it makes you feel better, we are effectively paid in after tax dollars.

So our wages are set on the same basis.

If we all paid zero taxes, the free market would adjust so that your wages were the same amount after tax as they are now.

I owned my own business for 5 years. Yes it sucked, but the write offs helped offset that.

Now?

ALL of my income gets taxed out the ass

And I signed a clause that says I won't work for myself or others.

Yes I put myself into this position, which relatively is a great position, but it still sucks to pay so much knowing that 45%+ish of our population just pays no taxes.
