Is the OP saying that he would have a Model 29 rechambered for .357 Magnum but replacing the cylinder and barrel, essentially creating a Model 27?

I feel like I am missing something here.  May be a reference I missed.

I assumed OP fat fingered Model 27 or 28 into 29.

Interestingly, one of my relatives has a Model 28 that was converted to a ersatz 1950 target with a 45ACP cylinder and barrel. So, I guess a 29 in .357 isn't really a big leap.

P7   It's specifically designed to be a fast-draw pistol and to get the first round on the other guy faster than he does to you.  Yet be safe to carry loaded 24/7 - even if your shirt gets tucked into your holster while holstering.

There's a difference between a street gunfight,
a showdown (also called a walkdown) and
the traditional duel.

The duel has rules and if weapon of choice
are pistols, both parties use the same type pistol
loaded with agreed upon # shots and dstance.
This is pre-arranged by the desigated "seconds"
representing each challenger's best interests.

If you chose the G18 that is also what you'll
be facing.

Best answer so far.

I’m LOL’ing at all the full-auto Glock comments. That would be hilarious. Trust me. I’ve fired one. It would be 68 rounds fired, no hits.

Assuming modern means any smokeless powder cartridge pistol, and not actually current production.

dueling usually has both participants with matched weapons.

If I am picking, I'll choose a Nagant revolver.

Why in the world would I choose such a bad gun?

Because I am familiar with it's absurdly heavy double action trigger and poor sights. My opponent almost certainly would not.

When the concept was invented - it was not about death.

Each duelist gets a full 10 round magazine.

They face each other 50 yards apart and start from a low ready position.

When one is unable to continue or is dead, or both have expended all 10 rounds the duel ends.

More fun than firing one big ass round.

This.

The intent was to make it have an element of luck and likely that neither side would actually die.

This way you can satisfy your honor and talk about how BAD you are when you tell everyone about it.

Traditionally each man fired one shot. If both missed then negotiations were entered. The offending party could offer an apology and it ended. Or they could agree to have another go.

correct.
the other person involved in the duel is just as deadly.

be the winner.
with the quickness.

my great-grandmother was born in Indian Territory in SE OK.
she witnessed many, Gunfights and supposed duels.

none were fair..
they were basically ambushes when one person had their hands full or were doing something that had their attention.
smart-effective.

in all honesty.
a duel should be fought with 2 T/C contenders. (357 Magnum)- open sights.
both men given 2 rounds. ( one for the Coup De Grace)

2 men enter.
1 man leaves

Interesting technical question.

Duels require social consequences to force a meeting. In this day and age there are no such social pressures.

Angry guy says, "I demand satisfaction!"

Regular guy says, "Yeah, whatever buddy, F.O..."

But I suppose if you had two angry guys...

It is a stupid concept to fight to the death over a slight or insult.

If it really is a matter of life or death then why would you take a chance on a duel you may lose ?

Honor is doing the right thing, having good character, being honest, not fighting and killing over insults.

Duelling with modern pistols would not work.

The whole point of the duel was that the guns were not overly accurate or powerful.

Often both parties missed but honor was restored.

Or a minor wound.
