Car Haulers getting bent over in Missouri by DOT Weight Station | Saint Clair, MO - “OVERHANG KAREN”

Just based on the comments no since it isn't a dedicated car hauler there's no exemption to the 53' length. Seems that's different in other states but not MO. Not going to look up the statutes myself lol.

@Irishrebel092  according to Missouri commercial vehicle code "Allowable overhangs are limited to three feet to the front of the cab and four feet to the rear of the trailer."

@Rocking_B   that is specifically for 65ft and 80ft automotive/boat haulers. Not fifth wheel trailers. There is also an exception for 60ft truck/trailer combinations that are specifically designed to carry cars. Otherwise they are restricted to 53ft trailers including load with no overall length restriction.

The overall length part of that is referring to the fact your truck is allowed to be as long as you want.

I'm literally a certified DOT inspector for my company dude. Again, this is not a car hauler, it's a fifth wheel car trailer, and he doesn't get any kind of exception.

Seems like a silly distinction. Maybe one of our truck drivers can explain why it matters. Seems like a case of rules for the sake of more rules.

I would just like to point out that converting a normal horizontal video to vertical and back to horizontal is profusely gay.

Welcome to commercial trucking

If he was under 60' (trailer length) and or less than 4' overhang he would have been fine in Wyoming

Government thrives on stuff like this.

I traveled through Missouri every week through the end of July!

I saw a "Commercial Driver Enforcement" vehicle every trip, between KCM and St Jo!

Two outta the four times he had a "Car Hauler" pulled over!

MHP must know something we don't.

States are allowed to set certain rules when it comes to commercial trucking and the rules change, often quite a bit when you cross state lines. In Wyoming I can be up to 117,000 lbs GVW, as long as I have enough axles and spacing to stay under the max allowable weights of a group, 60' trailer length, up to 4' overhang and 14' high without needing an Oversize/Over Weight permit. When I cross into Colorado I can't be over 80,000 lbs on the interstate or 85,000 lbs non-intestate.

It's confusing and you better study the rules for each state you're traveling through but I prefer it to having the Feds set all the limits, they would be restrictive as hell and we'd be stuck at a 55mph max speed.

I have not seen a MO weigh station open in years.

They may be trying to have haulers get the required permits for any load exceeding the 53' trailer limit.

As long as they get the oversize permit Missouri would not give a rats ass.

The other problem used to be for the trailing rear door flaps for increased fuel mileage. Used to see them all the time also, not so much any longer.

It's every aspect of everything. They can't help themselves.

The key here is the stinger steer trailer.

He had a conventional trailer limited to 53'

This is what the hitch on a stinger trailer looks like.

Here is an article comparing setups:

I used to drive local deliveries and didn’t have to deal with scales very often, one day got sent down to West Plains. I just boogied right past the open weight scale before I even realized it and was like ohhh shit as here comes a Patrol car. I start slowing down trying to think how I’m going to explain that I never go through scales and just spazzed but he just drove right on past me without even looking.
On the way back I made sure to stop the other direction and the stop light thing was broke and the sun was glaring off his scale house window so bad I couldn’t see him waving me to go until he stepped out and was like are you broke down? I’ve been motioning you to go for like 3 minutes now.

Hate to err on the side of the man but this seems pretty valid. Coming out of Missouri adds credibility.

If we don't draw the line somewhere eventually these guys will be strapping cars to the side, driving them onto the roof, and BBQing pets at rest stops.

My dad got busted once hauling a 54' beam with no oversize load permit. Since you're allowed so much overhang, but he didn't realize you still can't exceed 53' trailer/load overall.

And yeah, that's not a car hauler, just like this isn't a log truck. But to the layman they might seem like it.

Maybe they can do something about the Mexicans flat towing two junk cars behind one junk car with no lights or plates?

Not a CDL vehicle. So no.

It would be like trying to stop your general Nissan Altima from being on the road, with its missing bumper, half a head light and no working brake light. And it’s doing Mach fuck down the bonus lane.

You should have said that you were visiting here. I would have bought you a beer. That car lives just down the street.

She had a little overhang herself.
