Supposedly 35,000 people a day come through our town in the summer. And our population is 8-15k depending on how you look at it.

Grew up in Frankenmuth, MI, the amount of people that come here to get shitty chicken and look at christmas stuff is astounding.  Moved 30 miles north a few years ago, to another touristy town

Oh, fuck.

Where I grew up, and work.

Population will double on some weekends.

The bad part is how many decided to move here.

Where I live. there is nothing here for anyone to see, it's awesome.

No, Thank the Lord....

But Milwaukee (The city of festivals) is on one end of our street about 20 miles.
And Lake Geneva is 12 miles the other end of the street.

It is there if we want it.

Yeah. For factory outlet shopping.
The Nike Clearance store (not to be confused with Nike Factory store) is the anchor retailer of about 30 stores.
When closing the tills at the end of the day, the cash is weighed to count it.
Labor Day weekend is the biggest draw. Back to school shoppers.
They will do about $110K a day. Friday-Monday

There are specific events at the state fair grounds that draw people into the town.

Other than those events, there is nothing to draw in tourists.

I've lived in some major tourist traps over the years like Keystone, SD, McCall, ID, and Seaside, OR.

Keystone (I ran that hotel up on the hill for a year). They get about 3 million visitors a year to see Mt Rushmore about a mile away.

McCall, ID (spent about 6 years living there) I worked at the Foresters Club and some other places.

Seaside, OR

IMHO, a 'tourist destination' has about 75% of it's businesses designed to separate a tourist from his money.

It's not a city or town but a village.  It doesn't have the numbers to be a town.

In the mountains, the economy is tourism and/or mining and/or ranching.

West Milwaukee,  DNC will be in Milwaukee next year, but not a bad town, not a tourist destination at all.

Yes.  Fort Worth has the Stockyards and cowboy museum stuff.  People come here for that stuff.

I used to have a gun store just down from the stockyards by 35.  I was amazed at the number of Asian tourists who wanted to shoot.  I thought they were lost from Dallas for a while.

try driving Harbor on any day, or even Park, not to mention anywhere near plaza de panama  So glad I'm usually on a small motorcycle, much easier to cut through.
