The entire series is great. I read the first book In the early 80s and every since then I read the entire series at least once a year.

If you like military science fiction you shout read the series.

Janissaries
Janissaries II: Clan and Crown
Janissaries III: Storms of Victory
Tran
Lord of the Janissaries
Mamelukes: A Janissaries Novel

Tran and Lord of Janissaries are Omnibus additions.

Make likes was well written but completed after Jerry Pournelle's death.

Excellent writer. And his collaboration with Larry Niven remains the best co-authoring team in the history of science fiction.

As I recall, when they were writing the alien invasion story that was to become Footfall, they gave a very rough draft to their editor - I think Jim Baen. Supposedly he returned it with a note that said "Screw the aliens - tell me about the comet!" And so Lucifer's Hammer was born.
