GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas Jeep Weekend happens every year.

It's an unofficial event that people know about through word of mouth, and every year there are dozens of arrests and hospitalizations. During the event, the attendees stay in their Jeeps to enjoy the beach. There is typically a lot of alcohol involved.

According to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, there were a total of 233 arrests and more than 200 charges filed on Saturday.

More than 50 people were rushed to the hospital the same day, and one woman was left in critical condition.

The number of arrests and injuries increased compared to previous years.

In 2022, records for Galveston County showed 100 arrests were made during Jeep Weekend. 200 arrests, and one death were reported in 2021.

Two people were shot in 2020, and more than 100 arrests were made. In 2019, one person died.

This year the sheriff's office said it doubled the amount of deputies patrolling the area. 136 law enforcement officers were working on Saturday.

People are expected to be participating in Jeep Weekend again on Sunday. The sheriff's office said they are making sure people are OK. Deputies are out patrolling on the beach and neighborhoods making sure neighbors' homes are safe from vandalism.

Not a Jeep person here but I'm semi local and have family who are locals. The original gathering was always no big deal. Not completely family oriented but not real bad either. Had the usual few DWIs, some PIs so on. Somewhere around 2018 it went off the rails and is getting worse. The attendees aren't the same as it was.

Yeah, the whole thing is just a "nope" nowadays. Pretty much any significant holiday or gathering on the coast is a nope. Too big of crowds, too many problems.

I used to go to big offroad event. Lots of trashy white people that were clearly right wing.

Didn't mean that they weren't a bunch of drunk assholes though.

Something about motorsports brings out the tip top of the trash, especially stuff like mud bogs.

I had to quit going, the people were terrible.

This year, we did GTW at Surfside, a whole different vibe. It’s harder for city dwellers, sophisticated urbanites and rapid transit riders to get too.

Much more family friendly, traffic controlled and a boat load of police.

This applies to general off roading... I compare it to several years ago when the demographics CHANGED in the boating/Jetski world... Its happening with the off road world now. My AO, the drunk Hispanics in the side by sides driving drunk, without helmets, trashing the areas, is fucking things up.
