You could not see it in that camera angle but, seemingly out of nowhere, a huge, hulking, behemoth of a man suddenly appeared behind that truck.

I got hit in a tent in the 90s. It's F*ing loud. I had a spider web looking scar on my back for a few years.
My buddy in tent said his feet were blown off, actually they were just numb.

We had a good storm roll through this morning, complete with a lot of lightning and thunder.  A bit unusual for this time of year.

Pretty much, the ground was wet under our POS tent and lit us up.
The pressure blew all the lantern mantels.

Fuck man that’s terrifying. My buddy and I got caught in a hellacious lightning storm on Mount Rainier in the middle of the night at about 11k ft. I was fairly certain we were gonna die.

Needless to say summit day was canceled and we hauled ass down in the morning.

I’ve gotten caught on Rainer during a storm. Just below Steamboat prow.   It’s definitely not fun

We were just above Schurman. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been that scared or close to death in my life. When the lightning started we hiked our snow stakes, ice axes and pretty anything metal except our crampons about 50 yards away from our tent. Not that it would do any good but it made us feel better.

The next morning there was a hole in the snow five or so feet from the entrance to the tent. I assume the torrential rain opened it up. It would seem we had made camp on a hidden crevasse.

I yelled at my buddy
“Dude we gotta get the fuck out of here. Like NOW”

Pretty much glissaded down the whole motherfucker. Which is also a bad idea but we were in a hurry.

And fuck that truck in particular.

Slowing it down to 1/4 speed really illustrates the FU nature of lightning.

I've had a number of close calls. I have a very healthy respect for lightning.

I had a car get struck by lightning, in the church parking lot of all places. It probably should have been totaled but insurance paid about $10K for repairs, it still had gremlins though so I got rid of it a year or so later. All the electronics were fried, the coax for the antenna swelled up so big it wouldn't come through the access hole and every time I got out of it until I got rid of it I got a static shock.

Lightening is weird stuff. Have a huge 75ft high oak tree that is practically a canopy over my mail box. The mail box has a 4×4 wood post. Came home to find the mail box and attached cross beam laying on the lawn. The box and 4 x4 crossbeam it was bolted to had been struck and separated from the 4x4 post.

Dunno why lightening went around tree and underneath canopy to surgically remove mail box??

That at JR Motorsports, Dale Jr's team.

They had a strike on camera at their front door about a half hour after that too.

20 years ago, Dad and I were out in his sailboat in a wicked thunderstorm in pea soup fog, you could see flashes all around us and steaming pillars of vapor where it hit but for some reason us with a 40 foot tall aluminum mast didn't get smoked?
