Moorish castle was very interesting, built starting 1200 years ago, Portuguese took it over in the 11th century for a couple of years before the moors retook it, Portuguese finally kicked them out in the 13th century. Lots of damage if the massive Lisbon earthquake in 1755 but has been nicely and respectfully restored.

| Had an amazing and inexpensive lunch right outside the castle gate, everything was fresh and made from scratch while we waited, kids had cheesy garlic bread and ice cream, wife had sea bass with tzatziki sauce and lemon couscous and I had a lamb bourgignon with mash and vegetables, we also had the $4 couvert (cover) to start which was bread, olives, butter, and homemade sardine pate. With a bottle of local white wine the total was under 60 euro with no tip expected (I left 10 euros cash tip). |
