This is very true, and like you, I can only point to the Internet as the most likely explanation. I'm always amazed at how little of America's pre-2000 pop culture my nieces & nephews (all GenZ or younger) know about. Things like the Little Rascals, King Kong, Laurel & Hardy, etc. were all created decades before I was even born, and are not associated with the decades of
my youth (80s/90s), but we definitely knew about them when we were kids. Today hardly anybody under 30 knows who the aforementioned stars/movies were.
