For a while there, they had discontinued McDonalds hot mustard sauce.  They brought it back after there were a lot of people complaining online.

I always liked the stuff.  But every single copycat recipe I tried that I found online seemed to miss the mark.

Well today my wife came home from town and had got me some nuggets, but told me they were out of the hot mustard.

I decided to try an experiment using yellow mustard and some of the horseradish I had bought for the Christmas prime rib I cooked.

Well dang if that wasn't about 90% of the way there.  There is some other ingredient or combination of ingredients that adds a little brown color to their version, and I think it might be something sweet like brown sugar, molasses, or honey.  But none of the online copycat recipes use horseradish, and I think that's the key.  I think a little experimentation could either nail it or come very close.

If you like their hot mustard nugget sauce and have yellow mustard and horseradish on hand, give it a try.  Perhaps a ratio of 2 tablespoons of mustard to a half teaspoon of horseradish and adjust from there, and then experiment with sweeteners like brown sugar or honey to balance it out.

Well I like Smoking Ghost Ketchup so I might as well try this. I guess next will be Duke Magical Mayo.

Sounds pretty good! Honestly I never knew Mickey D's had a hot mustard sauce. But I love the hot mustard from the local Chinese place.

My fav dipping sauce was always Sweet n Sour.

Hot mustard is awesome on nuggets.  My wife thinks I’m crazy for liking it.

Actual chinese hot mustard tastes quite a bit like horseradish.

You might try getting a can of the hot mustard powder and trying it out separately, then adding a little to your experiments.

I wonder what you can put into food under the "spices" heading without disclosing the actual ingredients?  IIRC they are supposed to list the ingredients in order of greatest to least content. So "spices" looks like a significant portion of the sauce.

And it's by weight, not volume, IIRC.

What is the nutrition list like? The one with percentages? "Spices" might be MSG. Which would fit in with salt in the order and weight.

So try some MSG in it. It's actually useful to have in the house.

McD's is what you're trying to copy?
And you haven't added copious amounts of High Fructose Corn Syrup?

Try the Mardi Gras mustard from Popeyes.  The chicken is better from there too.

Sounds like you made Hot Mustard ala your local Chinese Food place op.

Mc Donalds mustard is very mild comparing the two. Pretty sure It also has turmeric in it.

Try dumping McD hot mustard on your burger. It's pretty good.
