More planning, and replanning.
So, if we use 12" pipe, it isn't going to work going around the pillar. It would just be too small up above where the top of the rocket would be. Worse than the way the Washington Monument is. So, plan "B", or "C" dang, who knows..... We use the pillar as the launch tower. bottom portion of the lexan still goes around it, offset. Tower details might be visible through the cotton and lights .....good. Up above, we have the Rocket next to the 5" pillar. We run a 4x4 post from the floor to near the top of the rocket and secure it to the pillar with plywood platforms that surround both near the bottom, then attach to the walls at the top. Internal plywood disks keep the PVC tube from moving around. This would be similar in how we offset the Washington Monument to the pillar last year. Whole structure stays around our target width of 18" or less. About 18.3 ft tall, 4 ft taller than our Washington Monument, from last year.  From the hallway side.....

Have you ever though about reaching out to industry for sponsorship? Could be direct financial, could be materiel.
I’d hit up Lockheed, Boeing, L3, Boston Dynamics... You’d be surprised what you can get just by asking, especially for anything in secondary education. If interested, let me know. I’ll help you brainstorm and maybe make an introduction or two. |

Excited for another school year! This one seems to have an even greater range of creativity and brainstorming than many of the previous projects. Its really the first time that you have gone forward into the future rather than back into the past to build items that are already completely thought out and have taken their final form in the real world. This year will be a lot more open ended it seems. |

Never got a response from them. We did get a nice response from Union Pacific when we build the Locomotive two years ago. They featured our project on their Facebook page and sent a cool Union Pacific Train Town USA sign to hang in our display.

If I were you, I would put together a nice .pdf of your previous products with a nice little write up. Then, I would call the PR or PA contact for a given company. Put together a 20 second “elevator speech” that hits all the main points you want to communicate to the listener, then offer to send them an email.
It’s no skin off your back to put a “Sponsored by XXX” and logo on a posterboard accompanying the display. Also, might be nice to document the project (as you have done) along the way, with video, for a nifty end of school year momento. Post on YouTube. Good luck! |

I'm sitting here waiting for a warm black bear to be delivered by the G&F. We were discussing how to display Opportunity. Robotics teacher wants to set up a train track and build Opportunity right over the train engine, then have it cruise around the display. Awesome idea.
