Not exactly a secret that wild rats in New Mexico carry it. Largest known population of plague on the planet. Mostly out in the middle of nowhere, but some bleeds into reservations.

the places they went to on "The Grand Tour" in Mongolia looked awesome.

Plauge exists in NM not really a big deal, just don't eat rats.
