He's a gunsmith who specialized in old style black powder firearms and milsurps from WWI and WWII...so he's used to working with wood. Also a retired Master Carpenter, among a whole host of construction accolades. What i didn't know is, WAAAAY back in the day, he made pipes. His family had little money, so when his Dad needed a new pipe, well, he made him one. He fund out I smoke a pipe, and I got this picture in the email. Attached File That isn't a crack on that stem - he carved out two halves of the stem and glued them together, so I am guessing that is just a dark line at the join. Neither stem is removable, old school. What do you recommend I do first, assuming wash them out to get rid of any leftover sawdust, etc. I've never had a brand new handmade pipe, so curious what you guys would do, as goofy as that may sound. |
