The article says the first person on Mars may very well be a woman.  It doesn't say will be.  The only absolute in the article is that there will be a woman on the moon in 2024.

This thread was a 'who read the article' vs 'who just read the thread title' test and a lot of people failed.

Von Braun said 40 years ago it ain't happening with liquid fuel technology. You have to create caches of fuel and supplies along the route to get people there and back. Now maybe if it's a one way deal? And then there's not enough money in any economy to fund it.
Look at our current infrastructure there's no way their cutting out FSA.

I nominate Hillary Clinton and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Actually, I prefer that we send them as our first astronauts to the sun.

They could go at night in order to not get burned by the sun.

Nope. Cheaper to send a sexbot. Keep recharged to perform on demand and not worry about radiation effects.

However, the soon-to-be first woman on the moon will likely be selected from NASA's current pool of active astronauts.

NASA has not yet announced who will be the first woman on the moon, but whoever she may be, she's scheduled to land in 2024.

LOL this is all they care about now, burnishing their progressive credentials

Woman here, woman there, look here's our first transsexual disabled person of color to do some minor job in space.

We'll never get to Mars. We'll be fiddling with test scores to make sure nobody's feelings get hurt.

Sending women to Mars may sound like a good idea, until they get up there and realize that they're both wearing the same outfit.

Then things are really going to get pissy

The fact that they said it was going to be a woman before selection even begins tells you it's going to be a diversity pick.

Based on experience in long duration space flight, ie space station rotations, women are more physiologically suited for long term space flight. For some reason they're bodies aren't as affected by zero gravity as men. I'll see if I can find article and attach.
