I'm all for reducing concussions, but couldn't they come up with something that's looks less stupid?

It's going to be two hand touch or flag soon. Flying the USSR and rainbow flags

No one is going to wear them. Or maybe a handful of guys that are paid to.
NFL and other pro sports are all about not looking like a pussy and that is a definition of a pussy hat. Every opposing player would rip on him. Just like with all of the NHL players that refused to wear helmets. You had guys grandfathered in that were still helmet-less in the late 90s. NFL will likely have drastic helmet and rule changes in the future. Lots of studies are coming out showing the long term affects of helmet hits are much worse than what people imagine. |

JFC. They took a 5XL rugby scrum cap and stretched it out over a football helmet.
Aside from looking ridiculous, what does this realistically add that better/thicker shock attenuating material inside the helmet would not? |

It's either they develop something that protects the brain or watch the game go away

Technically changes. I expect these to change and be in full use by the end of the decade or so.

They will evolve and likely end up looking like the normal helmets. Difference will be no 'CRACK' sound when they hit.

Here's a thought... instead of that why don't they have every player dress like this, including the weapon and shield...

Current generation helmets are already very very good with direct impacts. It’s the rotational impacts that cause most of the bad concussions (especially from other impact sports like hockey). |

Don't forget how the NFL acted toward the doctor who put the spotlight on CTE.

I remember some science show on Discovery or TLC back in the 90s showing a football helmet under development that combined the hard helmet and shoulder pads together for a rigid structure, then the player wore a soft helmet inside it to prevent concussions and neck injuries.

It's an extra large rugby scrum cap.
Wearing a scrum cap saved me from a number of concussions, but I still got a few anyway. |

Pretty sure the NFL is going to ignore my suggestion, yet again, where they give everyone clubs with spikes and to do away with all rules other than whoever can get the ball across the goal line wins.

It’s amazing how many men here know what is and isn’t gay. Kinda says something without really saying it.

"Yo dawg we heard you like helmets so we put a helmet on your helmet."

View Quote It attenuates a lot of the peak impact from helmet-to-helmet hits. Two hard surfaces colliding makes for a rapid jolt. And it makes the helmet less effective as a "weapon", so players are less likely to be intentionally hitting other players with their heads. |

View Quote I remember a few, particularly mactavish who o think was the last holdout. I also remember when only pussies wore the face shield. Now it's the neck gaitor to protect against blades. I've seen a few wearing them, but suspect in 10 years everyone will be. |

Looks like that thing is going to cause more neck injuries from grabbing equipment than saving concussions.
If the NFL wasn't 100% retarded they would put G force sensors on the helmets...like the cheap stickers that show when you go past a certain amount of G's...do the maths and then put them in the helmet. Then Look at the helmet after the games and see who got the shit knocked out of them. Then they can administer medicine to reduce inflamation..like the Paul Staments mushrooms shit. or what ever the hell they want to use. |

If they want to reduce head injuries, go back to using leather helmets. Without a battering ram, players will stop leading with their heads.

Bobble head helmets would look better and make the game funny to watch.
|
|
Is that just for practice or ?
I can't imagine game day players wearing that stupid shit. Even if it's "approved" |

View Quote Rugby is doing that with "smart mouth guards" They can determine how many gs have been involved in a hit. If it reaches a certain threshold, the player is taken off the pitch for head injury assessment |

We care more about millionaire NFL players that voluntarily play the game and make statements like “I would do anything for this” than tradesmen that destroy their bodies over the course of 40 years just trying to survive.
