I was recently asked by an elderly family friend if I would get this 52 Chevy into running condition. I've been working on this truck for a couple of months in between other projects. The things that need attention are the brakes, electrical, cooling and fuel system. My first order of business was getting the tank out and flushed along with the fuel lines and pump. I pulled the tank and it is in good shape. I rebuilt the carb but it will need replacing as the housing is in rough shape. I also replaced the points, plugs, condenser and plug wires. I wanted the motor running before I started throwing money at other systems. The truck fired up! I've also replaced the entire braking system including bending up new lines. If I decoded the VIN correctly it's a Los Angeles 3100 1/2 ton built in Oct of 51. Sorry for the choppy video I was trying to hold the phone and keep the motor running. Interesting buy not what I'm looking for. Currently looking at a 46 Chevy but will consider anything up to 39-54.

Still working on this 52. Last week I ordered a new water pump and oil filter along with a fuel tank and some other minor parts. I ordered everything for a 52 but what I received does not match what is on the truck. I don't know if the engine is original to the truck. I'm hoping one of you knowledgeable fellows can identify what I need to order and what year the engine actually is. An additional question for you guys about the oil canister. Should the oil drain out of the canister on its own, because it didn't. This is the # stamped on the block behind the distributor. 
And a casting # on the head.

I'm leaning towards this engine being a 56 or later. The water pump and oil filter appear to be correct for 56.
ETA found the block casting # and it decodes to a 58 235 straight 6. |
