How did that get started? Hats with the squished down sides. They look like gestappo. Well from my perspective being from Houston. Looks especially stupid when a woman cop is wearing one.

With zero research, what I recall from urban legend, it is post WW2 when USAAF pilots wore headseats over their caps it crushed them like that. German tank commanders also wore similar hats with headsets with the same result. ETA the PDs copied the look.

For me, it’s the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChicken sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.
One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, “Wow, three for free!” and the nice friendly McDonald’s worker laughed and said, “I’m going to call you 3-for-free!”. Now the staff greets me with “hey it’s 3-for-free!” and ALWAYS give me three packets. It’s such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald’s restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I’m in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs. I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it’s delicious! What a great restaurant. |

We put a circular piece of spring steel inside our cop hats to keep them flat on top.

I read somewhere that the NJSP uniform pre-dates what the Nazis wore.

State Bulls wear the Smokey Bear hat, pretty standard. A group of peeps formed a committee and studied drawings and such and determined that what you see is what you get, at least until the next committee meeting.

MA State Police could get some respect from the population if they didn't keep earning public black eyes for betraying the public's trust all the time. Look up MA SP overtime scandal if you're bored. |

It's been awhile since I read up on it Colonel Schwarzkopf’s military background greatly influenced all areas of the newly formed organization. During training olive-drab denims, courtesy of the Army surplus store, served their purpose very well. As the end of training approached, the need for a distinctive uniform became a priority. Schwarzkopf outfitted the new troopers in what was standard from 1921-1924. That original uniform consisted of a Stetson hat, brown boots, olive britches, gray shirt, Jersey blue tie, navy wool blouse and Sam Browne belt and holster. The belt forced the wearer to “brace” like a West Pointer, which was exactly why it was chosen by Schwarzkopf. From https://www.nj.gov/njsp/about/history/1920s.shtml West Point uniforms in 1923 : ETA - I was confused a bit initially, but it appears Schwartzkopf Sr was an Army Captain who had served in WWI and was a NJSP Colonel, the rank thing threw me off when reading up on this. |
