Link Social Security's full retirement age is currently age 67 for individuals born in 1960 or later. Workers in physically demanding jobs may find it difficult to extend their careers until that age. A new bill in Congress proposes lowering Social Security's retirement age to 60 for individuals with qualifying work histories. Michiganders who work with their hands shouldn't be forced to wait until their bodies give out to retire," Stevens said in a statement. "If we want to honor the dignity of work in this country, we need to lower the retirement age for physical laborers." The lower eligibility age would apply to workers in jobs like construction, roofing, nursing and manufacturing. Some are more equal than others. |

You get paid, she gets paid, the kids get paid. You sit on the porch all day, she cooks and feeds the kids. Shit’s like $5k month right there. Not kidding. You see it in the hood all the time. It gets worse, my dad was a doctor, married a nurse 27yr younger, at 40’ish she decided to get IVF (because she’s going to need someone to take care of her when she gets old). LoL construction workers are laid off more than they are employed. When meth finally takes it's toll on their body they will collect disability.  All or none. Nobody gets a pass due to occupation. I support lowering SS and Medicare to 60. A ton of people would retire and move which frees up jobs and houses for the whiney millennials. |

| Social Security isn't going to go insolvent. The day of insolvency will arrive and they'll raise payroll tax rates or other taxes to pay for the increased cost. Then it'll dawn on everyone it's been a social program all along and not some kind of government pension plan. That was just an illusion to increase acceptance of the program. |

I sit here reading stupid shit like this before heading out to my construction job. I’ve never been laid off and haven’t done meth since starting in construction in 1989. This post reminds me I(we) don’t charge enough. As far as retirement at 60? I don’t care, just give me the money I paid in now and end it. Social security is the biggest line item I’m hit with tax wise, plus I get to pay that sweet self employment tax. Shit makes me bitter. And yea, my back hurts. But I ain’t some metabolic mess like a 54yo cubie. |
