I used to shoot Nikon film and dSLR. Life happened and got rid of my cameras. When I got back into it Sony was leading in mirrorless. I really like the A1ii and the 30fps with precapture. I already have a 200-600 and a 1.4x teleconverter. I could also buy a used Z8 and a 180-600 for $500 less than an A1ii. What would you do? Besides not spend the money lol. |

Th Canon EOS R1 spanks the Sony A1ii every day of the week. Even the R5 mkII and R3 spank the Sony high end cameras. The lenses are a but more expensive, but the camera functionality is better. Canon rules the mirrorless market now. |

I'm going to have to shill for Nikon. The Z8 is a fantastic camera, and the 180-600 is a steal. You're going to love whatever brand you go with because they're all really good, Nikon, Canon or Sony. Each has their own strengths and weaknesses, and you really should consider what your goals are and how those strengths and weakness play into that. |

When I was looking for a full frame cam, I was all-in on crop sensor Nikons… but they were in the financial doldrums and they hadn’t put out a good new mirrorless as yet. So I looked around, and found the Sony A7RIV. So, IMHO Sony makes amazing cameras. And now Nikon has some good options so honestly you can’t go wrong here, especially if you have legacy glass to put on it. |

They are lagging behind in a distant 4th place in mirrorless camera technology, behind Canon, Sony, Panasonic/Lumix... Their autofocus and color science isn't up to par with Sony and Canon. Maybe in a year or two after raping Red's technology they will be in a better position video wise than Panasonic/Lumix. We'll have to see. Only their top level camera can compete with Canon and Sony. Their lower tier cameras are totally outclassed by their competition. |
