A couple houses down have a cat, it's grown over the years. I see it jumping around on my outdoor cameras anyways they moved two weekends ago. Cat is still here. is that normal? Or did they abandon the kitty, and skunk, and possum fighter? |

We have had sellers try to leave full grown dogs before! This house it was 2 barn cats and 2 outside dogs. We were OK with it, but had a choice. What I really hate are assholes who just dump animals in the country like we are a home for wayward pets. |

Not normal and a scumbag move of high order. At the very minimum at least turn the animal over to a no-kill shelter for rehoming. A large part of the intakes at the shelter my wife works at are from people moving who couldn't re-home the cats themselves (the most are from owners passing.) A smaller percentage are from the trap and release people realizing they caught a domestic cat and not a feral one and finding out afterwards it's because the owners left them behind. Just because they're outdoor cats doesn't make them feral cats that can take care of themselves. In rare cases they may be left behind because another neighbor wanted to keep/care for them, but those are obvious because the cats will move a few houses down to the new place. If you can take the kitty or find someone in the neighborhood that would be best, after than try to see if a local shelter can place it. |

It depends. Is it a pet that just happens to spend most of its time outdoors, or a local feral cat? We feed/house a couple of feral cats. If we moved out, we wouldn't take them with us. Wouldn't even try. |

It's possible that they tried to take the cat, but the cat wouldn't cooperate. My indoor cat isn't a problem to take to the vet, but my outdoor cat, I can't make an appointment for. I just call them and let them know I'll bring him in eventually, because he'll be outside all day every day, come to me when I call him or feed him, and let me pick him up. When I'm going to take him to the vet, somehow he knows. He won't come up to the patio to eat, and he won't let me pick him up or even get close to him. Once I forcefully capture him and get him there and then back home, he's fine for a year. So it might be that they tried to take him, but he wouldn't let them and he may have hidden from them, so they had leave without him. Cat's are weird. |
| We had a couple that evidently just got a load of kittens from their young female cat, and they moved out and took the kittens, but left the momma cat. She was a cute cat, and hung around the empty house up the street for a while, but if I saw her outside of my place and called to her, she wouldn't come to me. I meowed at her and she answered back like she wanted to come but she pretty much, I think, turned feral not having the daily feedings and being around the dipshit owners that dumped her. I haven't seen her in a while, and hope she either got taken in by someone or is being fed at least, and wasn't scarfed up by some bigger critter. The neighbor said he saw a bobcat on our lake road last week. |

Ive never seen it prior to moving to North Idaho. When we bought our farm here there was a cat left that lived in our barn. I mentioned it to a few people and they said its quite common to leave outdoor mousers. We took her to a vet, got all shots and fixed then built her an electrically heated house inside our barn. It's been 8 years and she is definitely a North Idaho snow cat. Always catching mice and occasionally giving me a worry when I see her sprawled out not moving in a snow bank then only to find she is sleeping. Either way still kinda a douche move to leave an animal that is under your care. |

Somebody just acquired an abandoned/dumped cat in a thread yesterday. And yes, abandoning or dumping any domestic animal is a massive douchebag move. |

We inherited 3 cats when we got our new place (rural ranch). They came with a nice note and 25lbs of cat food. I tried to accommodate them but our 5 dogs weren’t having it. They still show up from time to time-I keep their food dish full but they’ve taken up residence in the abandoned house to the west. It’s a good plan. |
