Yup. I would take that in a heartbeat. Probably mark to a higher paying job first, too.

Yep, this could be a good one. Fed Courts!

Juries, especially Grand Juries, need conservatives on them.  If your job gives you the time off paid, go for it.  If not, you can probably be excused.

So how does the pay work? Does your employer pay while you are at jury duty?

My wife (a conservative) just got one of these for county trials. She's in the pool for FIVE months!

Ours does. Every day you are out, you get 100% of your missed pay.  I had jury duty back in October. They paid for my time.

That depends on the employer’s policies. They don’t have to pay while on jury duty. So for some people it’s a real financial hardship.

When my wife had jury duty last year, between her employer paying her missed wages in full, the daily juror pay and mileage reimbursement from the court, my wife actually made more on jury duty for five weeks than she would have just going to her job.

I'm in the jury pool from april to end of june.  First time ever and I'm in my 50s.  Feel like now that the know me there will be more...

I have done County level jury duty twice now. This is the first Federal Court jury duty.

Pay $50 a day + $.586 per mile

I only have to go into Minneapolis if I am called upon. Otherwise it's life as normal.

Here they select from the list of registered voters. In my 50s as well.  I have been summoned 4 times and empaneled 3 of them.

I keep my fingers crossed I don't have to do it.

I'm in my mid 50's, and only had one close call in my life when I got an initial letter it might happen, then 2 months later a letter saying I didn't have to do it.

Maybe when I'm retired I wouldn't mind.

Any we wonder why the courts are the way they are.

It’s a pretty big hit for some people.

In the last 20 years I've gotten two notices and zero calls in, let alone making it to a jury box.

Pro tip. You never have to do jury duty if you never receive the notice.

Back in the mid 90's I was called for federal jury duty in Brooklyn, NY. The court let me out of service as I was an executive at a company and my position was considered critical.

I thought people were almost always excused from jury duty if they made it known during selection that they are conservative, not on welfare, etc.

In Alabama, you could earn upwards of $200 doing that.

I only got a chance to serve one time, DWI with the perp doing 85 in a 45 zone as he left the casino.
I might have been slightly biased as I live near the area and life flight helicopters were pretty routine as drunk casino goers flew up the road and blew through one particular red light.
Those living in Chandler may remember they always landed in the field opposite what is now the Harley dealer.
Although, I would not hesitate to exercise the forbidden juror's task in certain cases.

For everyone complaining jury duty is a big hit for some people... well so is being overcharged by a zealous prosecutor with a political agenda. The system badgers so many people into taking a plea that those who go to trial often know they've been inappropriately charged I'm sure. Courts need honest and intelligent jurors who understand what's really going on.
